Just heard about it, I should check it out. What kind of detectors are they using?

Will and I (wilcam47) met up in southwestern Arizona at Franconia to look for meteorites for a day, neither of us found any, but I think it was mainly because we didn’t know what we were really looking for. There were a lot of hot rocks out there, and many that look like meteorites. I did find some cool minerals out there, though, several that look great under a UV light.

Went down to the beach this morning. All hard pack sand with the monsoon rains we have had in the last week.
Had a Divine Intervention that told me to dig and I came up with this about 6 inches down.

    VERY NICE!!!

For silver, you can usually tell if it is silver by "dropping" the item on, say, the top of a dinner table or similar and you will hear a very distinct high vibration sound vs something like a copper penny. When I say "drop", I'm talking about an inch or less in height.

But yeah, it gives a very distinct high vibration type sound.

Now, larger objects like a spoon or something I don't know? I just know that one day I happened to put down a silver coin and noticed the sound it gave and compared it to a copper penny. I have a silver bead I found and it gives off the same/similar sound.

Or you can try those silver test kits or look for your typical makers mark or some stamping? :notsure:

Hey- shoot me a PM before you ever do buy one, I still have it because I found a place where I may need it but it’s too hot to go there right now and I may put it back on sale afterwards.

A 24k is only really useful for gold, but if you’re also interested in beach and coin detecting, i’d recommend an equinox 800 for gold nugget, coin and relict shooting, or a 600 for beach, coin and relicts. Ever since the equinox 900 came out there’s a lot of used 800s, and even less expensive 600s for sale.

Haven't been detecting much lately but here was a good day I had about a week ago. Didn't take a picture of all the other targets, but was really happy, these were in the same hole presumably dropped at the same time

Back again! Well, I last went out with a buddy to the Dale/Gold Crown region near Joshua Tree- he has a sweet ‘85 that he uses as his prospecting burro. He put in lunchbox lockers on the front and rear differentials of his truck and it does really well off road, those things are sweet and very well designed. It’s kind of fun comparing his 1985 PU to my 2017 Tacoma - there are 32 years of differences shown in that photo.

He’s from Arizona and was visiting for a bit and we decided to go prospecting. I don’t know why people from Arizona do it, especially living in the desert and all, but he prefers to use a high banker when working out there and so he brings 30 gallons of water when he goes for his jello dirt pudding mixes. I prefer detecting or a bit of drywashing to that!
    IMG_0825.jpg IMG_0735.jpg
Well, the trip was kind of a bust for getting very much gold, I did manage to find a little bit when I decided to get some small samples off of sidewall with a small shovel. I classified it and then panned straight from my bucket and got a little tiny bit of gold. I am planning on going back when the weather is nicer to drywash more around that spot. It was fun being there with my friend, but I was kind of hoping to get something with a detector. Maybe next time!

Here’s his take with his high banker, mine would not show up well in the photo.Resized_20230320_175732.jpg

Anyone gone out lately? It’s Friday and I can hear my closet queen beeping and I am feeling anxious (probably cabin fever due to all this rain!)

    EDIT: IT’S SOLD

Anyone want a used Equinox 800? $400 OBO picked up in Hemet or meet up or + shipping at cost (about $50). It’s used and does have some scratches and wear. It comes with wireless headphones, charging cables for the detector and the headphones, and the 11” coil. The coil cable had been accidentally cut (see photo) and was repaired so all is working well now.

The Equinox 800 is a multi-frequency detector with Park and Field modes (lower frequencies for coins, jewelry and relicts) and a Prospecting mode (higher frequencies for gold nuggets). It has really good target ID showing ferrous and conductor values useable to discern copper pennies, clad pennies, nickels and silver coins. Iron discrimination works well on it too.

    IMG_2458.jpg

    IMG_2471.jpg

Also selling a very clean 15” Equinox coil with the detector for $150 extra. Sorry, not selling it separately.

Hey Hobbs! Was wondering who was out there, here, or wherever. Hope you’re doing well! haven’t had time to get out with the detector for quite awhile, has anyone done any lately now that the weather is getting bearable out there?

Finally got a chance to go detecting again. This time on a beach. But it's not a very crowded beach so it was pretty clean. But found 2 corroded pennies and so many tent stakes.
