    Tomorrow.

I had errands to run today and then meetup with a friend from TW after.

But tomorrow, gonna hit the "towel line".

Not really expecting much because it is "winter time" still.

Hey - what type/model of MD would you guys recommend for finding meteorites? Most have iron and nickel in various amounts, and have been in the dry desert ground a long time.

Now, I'm NOT promoting Garrett Metal Detectors, it's just that I know their MD'rs characteristics fairly well.

Anyways, with that said, their newer Ace300 should be good enough for what you're looking for if that is the case,

    OR,

you can get an equivalent Minelab, Fisher, Bountyhunter, etc etc etc that will do the same/similar job.

What it typically comes down to is you "dig up" the signal anyways or leave it alone if that is not the metal signal "signature" you are looking for. With that last statement just said, you can typically discriminate out the signals you don't want as well.

Anyways, you should be expecting around a $150-$300 price range. Possibly as low as around just above $100?

Finally, it also depends on "tone only" or some kind of "visual display" type metal detector. For example, a "Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker" would be a tone only machine and run about $130 or so. A "Garrett ACE300 (i.e. roughly equivalent to their older ACE 250 model), is a visual display type unit and runs about $250 or so. Either one should be more than good enough, with enough features for other types of hunts.

    Hope this helps??? :notsure:

BTW, meteorites can bring in quite the $$$

Thanks! will have to check it out. My only MD experience was with a Heath Kit one a long time ago, that could have worked on iron, but it’s gone. There are some dry lakes out here on BLM land we walked around on with a magnet stick and found two little penny weight ones, but I’m sure there could be more under the dry clay where we found the two.

BTW- since it’s BLM lands, I legally can’t sell them though, and can only take those that are less than 10lbs, and only a total of 10lbs per year- if I am so lucky to find them that heavy... but they let the public use MD’s to look for them :)
