    Wow!!!???

Yeah, I had just read an article that they were still in "business", but doing changes to there company because alot of their engineers are getting ready to retire... or something along those lines? :notsure:

Now, with that said, 'I' THINK it's because they were losing some SERIOUS business!!! If you look at their detector line up, there was really no "innovation"???!!! They all pretty much had the same features, but different name/model. In my humble opinion, they also tried doing a halfa$$ed information display type detector. Tesoros are mostly "tone only" with their model line ups, which is fine obvioudly, but, again, in my humble opinion, I think they were losing the market because of all the options people had with the other metal detector manufacturers.

Those are my thoughts at least and my theories on what is really going on.

I like Tesoro. I don't have one, but I still want to get their Sand Shark!!!

Ok, Now I don’t know which way to go- according to this article on MD’ing for meteorites, a sensitive VLF unit is preferable over PI. I looked at their suggested lineup, and there are some used mid-range units I could afford like the Fisher F75 and the Teknetics T2 They also listed the Tesoro Lobo. So, anyone here have experience with any of these?

    Here’s the article I saw: https://www.metaldetector.com/learn...ting/using-metal-detectors-to-find-meteorites

I agree in the sense that a VLF is more than adequate for "iron".

I only brought up PI machines regarding mineralized soil conditions because the question was asked.

In your case, like I said earlier, iron is iron and just about any metal detector out there is more than adequate to do the job for iron.

Now with that said, I don't know the hunting conditions involved with meteorites? That is why there is no such thing as "the perfect metal detector". Another reason why people tend to have more than one. Some are better than others depending on environment and who knows how many other factors?!

But yeah, brotha, for you, my humble opinion is to get a beginner to intermediate cost metal detector for your case.

If mineralized soil comes into play, then you will have to adjust accordingly with the type of "tool" to use for that particular environment.

Perfect example, I'm not going to EVER use a VLF machine for saltwater hunts because the thing will beep so much the speaker will probably burn for all I know. That type of detector is NOT doable for highly mineralized environments!!! PERIOD!!!

In a highly mineralized case like that, I would put my VLF aside and go for the PI instead.

Hope that all makes sense now? You have to choose the right tool for the right job. Just get a basic to intermediate and, honestly, I think you will be just fine for maybe 99% of your hunts!!!

Well, now you just need to find quite a few thousand more to break even. Not too bad of odds? :D:p Right? :notsure:

Joking aside, hope you find your Merc!!!

i havent messed with the settings much but its picking up minerals in the gravel. I dug up where the penny was and picked up some gravel pieces and it was setting off the MD. It was picking up one tone in 30's but the ground was frozen

I haven't bothered to look up the specs for your machine, BUT, I imagine it has a "configurable setting" called "ground balance"? Am I correct? That SHOULD help alleviate highly mineralized soil type conditions because it is nulled out, if you will.

Anyways, my ACE250 is "automatically ground balance". Meaning, ... well, really meaning nothing... HAHAHAHA :rofl::rofl:

Anyways, the only way for my detectors example, is to turn down the sensitivity. That is about all I can do when it comes to highly mineralized soil conditions for my ACE250 detector that I run 99% of the time, but it is still affected I can assure you whether sensitivity is turned down to "zero", so to speak, regarding salt water conditions or even black sand and mineralized soil environments, for example, those conditions just annoys the hell out of my detector and ultimately... me. HAHAHA :D:p:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Finally to ALL reading, from this post going forward, I don't want to come off as a "know it all" as that is NOT me!!! I know enough about PI machines to learn more from, but there is still TONS more I can learn from either type (i.e. VLF and PI type detectors). There are those that have quite the knowledge about detecting reading my posts I'm sure.

    Annnnnyways... HH people \_

I don't know if they are permanently out of business, hopefully not. Just doesn't look like anything going on. I have a friend who is a business banker, I'll ask him if he knows anything.

The Fisher F75 is a very good coin machine. A freind has one and we did an impromptu comparison between it and my E-Trac and the F75 had more depth. I have been (secretly) coveting the F75 ever since.
I can't speak to the meteorite hunting.

Today I was fortunate enough to scare up a silver plated brooch. I am guessing that it is vintage mid-1800's.

I will. HAHAHA, coins count? I'm trying to find "old parks" to detect. I found one established around 1972 or thereabouts, but the ground there is like,... well, hard to describe, but like "gravel dirt" with "crab grass" type grass or similar??? Nice looking park, but harder than shi* to jab my Lesche into the ground as I'm constantly hitting small rocks???!!! :goingcrazy::frusty:

Heck yeah, post up anything interesting! I have a Lesche digging tool also and find it works great in grassy soil. I also have a Lesche 31" shovel that may work well in those conditions. You can never have enough detecting accessories...
