I went out yesterday and found zero coins. I did find part of an old horse bit. And a bunch of trash.

When I got home I ordered an Equinox 800. :D Most of what I have read about it is very encouraging!

Yes, I am looking forward to playing with it. I picked up a copy of Andy Sabisch's guide and have been reading up on it. I hope it "clicks" for me.

Yeah, I've ben reading over on treasurenet for a little while. And, if I find anything, I'll certainly post it up.
I'm excited about it because I have a friend that is in real estate and mostly sells huge, multi-million dollar, historic plantations here in SC. He should be able to get me in on some very interesting spots.

I am sure it is user friendly. it is simplified in some respects, but very sophisticated in others.

I found some.......trash! Got out today using the USGS mineral resource database KML files (https://mrdata.usgs.gov/mrds/find-mrds-graded.php) with GoogleEarth to scope out some old abandoned gold prospect claims near me and it led me right to a giant modern illegal trash dump :( Dang, even the prospect was buried!:annoyed: So I hiked around the hill for a while and found some exposed quartz and tried that. I did get some hits and got excited. It was obviously broken up previously, so that was an even better sign to me. I kept getting hits in some of the cracks and took a lot of time digging them out. Next time I need to bring a brush or an air blower bulb, and a strong magnet to clean those out instead of breathing in a lot of dust. So there I was digging away and finally I figured out what it was that I kept hitting. It wasn’t hot rocks or anything like that, it was tiny little flakes of iron, probably pieces of the pick that was originally used when breaking up the quartz. Once I cleaned those out there was no longer any type of signal coming from the quartz exposure. Anyway, it’s exciting to know how small of a flake my GM1000 can pick up when in non-discrimination mode, so I know I’m doing something right and that it will pick up even tiny small bits of gold when and if I ever come near any.

Another fun thing was actually getting to drive up the backside of the hill to the prospect. Crawl control did well on the loose rock on the steepest parts and my armor helped out a bit too on that washed out prospect access road.

It was a good day and pretty nice to get out, and it just dawned on me why the roads were so empty - I forgot how fun it is to get out on Super Bowl Sunday!

Ha! Get used to digging out trash and iron, it's just part of the deal. On many of the old workings you are likely to dig up old boot tacks. I can't count the number I have dug.
It sounds like you will be in position to recover the gold when you find it. Good for you! And you gave the Taco a workout; all the better!
I used to make it a point to be out of the house on Super Bowl Sunday. You typically have the whole outdoors to yourself.

Glad you enjoyed your day!

Cool! Definitely post up pics of the finished product. And give us a review after you use it.
