I did have the turquoise bracelet appraised and it was what I thought it would come back as, but still cool to save it from the landfill: Navajo; A "Fred Harvey" tourist bracelet sold at Railroad shops in the 1920s. Value as is $50-100. It needs a $100 repair job. Harvey had dozens of jewelry shops and railroad restaurants etc.....Let me know if you would like us to repair this for you. Best, Matt

I didn't find anything of note today. I did, however, get pricked by 29 different species of Arizona cactus.

Almost forgot this crazy ladies shoe horn(I believe that's what it is)

This area was populated from 1890s to about 1914 by the way.

Interesting thread. Just came across this. Probably be more of a lurker, I don’t do any hobby detecting but did A LOT in service. One of our mission sets was for counter mine and de-mining operations prior to the popularity of IEDs. You could easily spend an entire day searching a 2’x100’ path. Some mines use metal less then the size of a pill. Glad I only had to do a couple “potential” areas that turned out to actually have nothing. Interested in just seeing what you post and the systems you use.

We started out with a an/pss-12 before upgrading to an/pss-14s in 2004.

lol me either. That’s all I need is to get stuck in some cave a mile back and then the lights run out.

Especially considering The Decent is based on a true story.

I like the buttons and the bottle openers. And it's cool that the ring still has leather on it!
The shoehorn is super cool! Is it silver? That is a score!
I am overdue to find a bottle opener as I have a couple of places where I find hundreds of bottle tops. Hundreds.

I think it is silver plated brass.. some of those places with alot of bottle tops can be very productive. Both my detectors false on the tops pretty bad, but with the minelab it wont be repeatable so I only dig the really repeatable signals in areas like that.

Fun fact, the typical pop top bottle cap was invented by a man named William Painter in 1892. Shortly after that he invented the opener. The bottle caps were called "crown corks" originally because there shape and the fact they were replacing corks. The very first patented bottle opener variant is circled in red here. You can find patent drawings of many of them online including this one. The tapered part on the opener was designed to be used as a temporary bottle stopper, that idea never caught on so you can see the earlier variants of the bottle openers have the tapered part and the later ones don't. I did some research on him a while back when I first found the bottle opener, and just a couple weeks ago I saw a company making sunglasses called "William Painter" named after him as they have bottle openers built into them.

I have thought about discriminating out the caps, but they come in really close to a nickel, so I haven't messed with it.
You run a 3030, no? Are you saying your detector falses and then doesn't repeat (continue to false) on a cap? I ask because my E-Trac will false all day on a cap, and I am unaware if this can be adjusted out. I know I can discriminate them out entirely, but that is different than falsing and then ignoring.

Cool lesson on the bottle openers! I have seen one like the opener on the right side of your picture. I'm gonna have to double check on my bottle cap infested sites.

Yeah Ill get a false high tone every now and then on the caps, but it wont be a repeatable clean signal with the 3030.... My ATpro will give a repeatable high tone on them sometimes. Would be hard to completely discriminate them Im sure you'd be missing other desirable targets.
