Sadly ending my detecting today at this one site, it has some old gold mines, but I’m not sure when I’ll be able to get back to it. It had some interesting minerals though, quartz with tourmaline and this quartz with magnetite, a type of iron oxide also associated with gold, but none seen or detected here yet.

Are you swinging on those samples you're finding, or just eye-balling them? The old timers left gold behind if the ore wasn't showing visible gold.

    No gold.

Went out this morn and hiked three canyons looking for prospects. My buddy and I also drove to a handful of prospects we had looked over several years ago.
Needless to say, we came up empty.
It's all good though. I got out of the house and enjoyed a beautiful morning!

We came across four pairs of Chucker that were super mellow. Never seen them act the way they did. They weren't bothered by us in the least.
Saw lots of lizards, which means the snakes will be out soon also.

Maybe not, but those that were native to HI brought them over 1500 years ago. So native enough for the last ten plus generations.

Guess they did something to you? :D:boink:

I'm a wildlife biologist, so not a fan of introduced species by humans in general no matter where they are. They always fuck shit up for native species. The geckos that I know are out there are Phelsuma species (Day geckos, oh the geico mascot) from Madagascar and Hemidactylus species (house geckos) from Eurasia.

I like day geckos alot and use to breed several species of them. Day geckos were brought over by people in the last 50 years or so. Hmmm... perhaps you're right about the house geckos.

Damn it... so like the ONE person with the ONE profession that can support his comment. I will agree, we always try to think we know better then nature. Mostly wanted to give you shit because they are kind of cool and funny. I have zero idea what good or bad they do to the area though.

Well play sir, well played... we may meet again though!

You are right, I was definitely checking them with my detector-I only had an hour to spend, so I was moving fast. I think I’ll try bringing some home to break up and panning them sometime too the next time I can get out there. There’s a lot of it in big piles, sadly though, my detector was very quiet all over them, and I also tried turning them over too.Maybe someday I should use a PI detector there perhaps...

Sounds like you are thorough. That will lead to gold. Your Monster is super sensitive. If you aren't picking up a signal in the tailings, bringing that stuff home to process and pan prolly won't result in much gold. Ain't nothing wrong with doing it for fun, though! I enjoy panning as I find it soothing (especially when I find gold!).

I got to use my detector today!

It was a honey-do day and I was showing off the usefulness of my detector to my wife by finding all the old sprinklers...
