sounds just like a flag pole how the rope hits the pole in the wind, its like a ting, i can only hear it while costing as otherwise the motors to loud, ive already changed both wheel bearings and wheel bearings less then 1000 miles ago. im afraid its my r/p or bearing in there, if it is r/p, what total cost am i looking at? :(

    any other possibilities/suggestions?

Derp I said wheel bearings twice. All wheel bearings have been changed less then 10k miles, and center carrier bearing less then 500 miles ago. Front ujoint on driveshaft has been changed, but not double cardigan or rear most. Ill check.

But driving I almost wonder if its the front the sounds coming from :(

Maybe something with the rear diff? When is the last time you greased your shackle bushings?

Same thing happened to me. Have you done any wheeling lately and where you were noticeably hard on it? My noise got louder and more noticeable with daily driving over speed bumps and up hills etc... I put the axle on two jack stands and then put the truck in gear and put my hand on the pumpkin and could tell it was coming from in there. So i took it all apart and sure enough it was the R & P. Just ordered a new 3rd from ECGS last week. Something like 600 bucks.

A dry slip yoke will make that noise.

I was thinking the rear one. That is the one that takes the most abuse unless you run in 4wd as many miles as on the street. Its easy to check. Pump some grease into it until you start to see the joint expand. If it is dry, that could be a lot of pumps.

The only time I've heard that noise is when I let my girlfriend drive. She was backing out and switched from reverse to drive while the truck was still moving a bit:eek: Needless to say she was never allowed to drive it again! Hope that helps!

Wow, I'm impressed you even tried. I drive an automatic, so I figured she could handle it. Naturally moving forward and backward was too difficult for her to comprehend (we're not dating anymore, so it's okay to be bitter , lol).

hahaha, right? Strike one was doing that to the truck. Strikes two and three were sleeping with another guy. Shit happens though, and I'm over it.
Anyway, sorry to thread jack. Just reading that description reminded me of the noise that made. I really hope your problem isn't related to that!

well, after putting up with this for roughly a week now, its gotten worse, specifically after an off road trip, and i also now have a whistling. the whistling is at medium rpm, and gets a hari higher at 4k rpm, then dies off, and the rattling is super noticable when i shit and run at ~300rpm when vehicle shakes.

father law and i went for a ride and figured it out at same moment. Exhaust/header. Ive also been getting an intermitant CEL, which comes back as the 87, with a possility of being a sensor on the cat. so imma tighten headers tomorrow, and weld the rest of it. ugh.

dont know if its cracked, or if the exhaust is loose. I only have one hanger behind rear axle, so i suspect thats been bouncing around sense i bought it, as the trucks had its body lift removed, apparently right before i bought it in july.

Luckily i have access to a stock header (maybe) for cheap (hopefully).
