So, I purchased a new iphone 3gs (installed Navigon as my GPS) and I have a Metra Ipod adapter ($49 at Circuit City). I plan to use this setup as my primary GPS unit and music player in my truck. I planned to purchase a mount similar to this -

Will the Metra charge my Iphone safely? Or, will it damage the battery/phone?

i don't think the metra charges the iphone. you might need the scosche passport to charge it.

True, unless your Metra states specifically that it charges 2nd gen iphones and touches, it will play but not charge.
