I plan to get a mount for my truck to mount my Microsoft Surface Tablet inside the cab for long road trips (navigation and such) was wondering if anyone else has done this? I searched on the forums and online and haven't really found any good set ups. Finally found a car charger compatible and seems to have good reviews for it. The mount is next. Would like something to mount maybe to the center console or something that I can mount so that the tablet is to the right of the gear shifter, maybe in the gap between passenger seat and glove?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hey,

There's all kinds of crazy you can do, like this: https://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-316-1-UN9, and there's ones that mount in the cup holder if you don't want to drill...

Does the surface have non-wifi GPS on it?

I know with some of my nav apps (I have an android head unit), unless you download the maps offline first, you will also need wifi to update the maps in real-time. I just tether my phone to do that but it's a consideration.

    Hope that helps.

Plan to do a combo of both downloaded and online. I can hotspot my phone and run off that, plan to get a cell booster too. I have to look for apps that are functional. Not sure quite yet. As for the mount going to probably go with this mount

I've had good luck with gaiagps but don't know if there's an ms app for it (aside from using the web page).

But it's definitely better than using the cell phone by itself to view GPS data!

Yeah, I have tried gaiagps, but haven't had success getting to to really function on my tablet for some reason. Still looking

I use console mounts from https://www.ballsoutoffroad.com/ and two arms to a RAM X-grip for Surface Pro 3. It's mainly to run offline Nat Geo TOPO! software (WinXP old but great). Most of the time I use OSMAnd for offline navigation on a smaller tablet or phone.

I have been using a dash mounted suction cup for the last 3 days of our 5,000 mile road trip. It has been doing a great job of staying in place and allows me to look at the map without taking my eyes completely off the road. The only negative thing about it is that it does block the front right part of the hood. Not a problem on the highway. More of a nuisance when parking in tight spots. Google maps allows you to download their maps for free. Includes terrain, road and satellite if you want works great in the areas with no LTE.

Tech Deck + Ram mounts. The iPad doesn't move at all, even offroad.

How do you have it mounted? could you post pictures? I was thinking about doing RAM mounts, but for the plate that goes along the air controls you have to take a bunch out of the console yeah?

Here's their thread. Again, I'm unsure if they're still around. You don't have to take apart any of the console - you just need to willing to drill in a couple (unseen) holes.

yeah probably not the option for me, all the stuff I've put on my truck thus far can be removed if needed. Not sure how I feel about putting holes into that area. thanks though
