Wow! I just read through the whole thread. I hope this can all be resolved op. I feel we should have a requirement before buying or speacially selling. Also the picture requirement should be enforced I've seen the email me for pics or text me if, your going to sale here do it so everyone can see... just saying.

I think the Mods do a good job of requiring pics. In fact, I think this one was noted by a Mod to provide a pic early on. Just saying.

Like I said that's too easy. I can go take a pic of mine and "claim" I'm selling it. I get the $ and I keep what I'm selling.
Of course requiring a pic is a good rule, but for the 2% of scammers on TW it's easy to get around that.

It would be cool if Bob made a form people needed to fill out that required pictures, a post count, and linking a paypal account. And if the form isnt filled out you can't post.

    Cool for Bob? :)

You can already enjoy those features on eBay. Might just be best and easiest for The Great One Bob if we just stopped trying to buy things that are over more than you can afford to lose, unless it's a local face to face sale.

If Bob goes all nuts with making us feel more secure then it'll be less of a forum and more of a marketplace, which is probably more than he wants to handle and won't be that much fun for us either.

But where would the form go? Who would make it? Where would that information be stored and by whom? And does that mean The One Great Bob is responsible to police all the sales/trades that happen on TW, or just that he has to step away from his own life whenever someone gets ripped off and then handle that nonsense? Where does it end, man..

    WHERE.

I just think it would be easier to have a prerequisite. Like you can't access the BST threads until you have 50 or 100 posts or whatever or been a member for X amount of time.

In a perfect world, it would be nice if there was someone who received all payments and held them until the buyer confirms the product has been received. Then they could forward the money to the seller. All items would have to be shipped with delivery confirmation.

A perfect world, except for the poor slob who has to handle all that holding and forwarding of money that is.

I think the prerequisite would be ideal. This scam was in no way TW's lack of attention or set up, but it wouldn't have happened if there was a post count minimum. It shouldn't stop everyone but would discourage some potential scammers.

Post count minimum would help. You can get an idea on what the member drives or contributes at least. They could still stage an elaborate front but quick cash scamming would be lessened I would imagine. Honestly I check out posts who I'm buying from or selling to here or other forums where I B/S/T than its PayPal or personal check (cleared).

Hahaha that is hilarious. If it shows up this week then I have no clue why he resorted to this. Regardless I'm calling the police tomorrow to discuss my options.

In the past I have made several purchases and sold a few items never having an issue.
Criminals will find a way to circumvent any system that is in place.
Someone else made a comment about whom you choose to do business with and even the OP says he could of used better judgement.
Historically, there have been so few issues, my opinion would be to let laying dogs lay.
I would hate to see the marketplace shut down because better member judgement could of been made to begin with.
One other comment, If Bob decides to start having forms filled out he may encounter a bit more liability in a southward sale. Why would he want to assume more liability. At this point it is a buyer beware system much like any other Marketplace. Best example, Craigslist.

I really hope this turns out well for you OP. Cheers
