So I haven't been feeling my usual chipper self lately. I have been tired all the time. It feels like I can't "catch up" on sleep. I generally get 6-8 hours a night. I scheduled a doctors appointment for this monday. I am going to have some blood work done and maybe check my thyroid.

Any way, I started feeling a migraine coming on throughout the day yesterday. I went to my nephs ball game and the constant changing from sunlight to cloudy really took a toll. By the end of the game I felt nauseous and light headed. It felt like my left eye was going to explode. Another weird thing is when I cough or sneeze or even bend over, it does the same thing to my eye and just behind my eye brow; feels like it is going to pop.

So my question to you sufferers is this: What do you do to ease the pain? I sometimes just have to go to bed. I actually slept from 8:45 last night to 6:30 this morning. I have heard hot showers and/or cold compresses work. Taking something like Excedrin or Tylenol doesn't effect it.

Does it work good? Is it instantaneous? That has been recommended to me also.

since my wife is pregnant, she is really limited on migraine medicine.

She tries to remain calm, eats some light food, and has a caffeine. Caffeine is a big help.

Oh 98 sorry to hear that.
Like Steve R said Imitrex spray.
It will work faster than its pill form since it your sinuses are like a gateway.

I had migraines up until 2003 after going the whole route with neurologists, scans, blood work. Some were so bad, I had to go to the hospital for an shot that helped immediately but still took a lot out of me.

Nothing turned up or accounted for them so my neurologist suggested keeping a log to see a pattern & changing my diet. Begrudingly I avoided foods that trigger migraines, adopted some that help prevent it & stopped consuming any alcohol  and have been migraine free without medicine since 2004.

I wish you the best in figuring this out & don't wish them on anyone, crazy painful. :(

Thanks Judy. Mine appears to be triggered by light- artificial vs. natural. I went to the eye doctor two months ago to rule out my eyes and he found nothing. New glasses helped a little but the affect has seemed to played itself out.

Sounds like you are on the right track trying in figuring out the triggers & a pattern.
I hope the doctors/blood work sheds some light for you. No pun intended.

Yeah I can't walk into walmart without dark glasses on any more. Without them, it usually takes fifty steps before it hits.

Although I can't speak for him.....My husband has had migraines ever since he was a baby. The triggers vary. MSG's,chocolate and the usual migraine triggers - although sometimes they don't trigger one (he can't go without certain foods even though there's that potential). I've also noticed, if he doesn't eat regularly...he gets 'em also. They can vary from mild to massive. Luckily, the massive ones (throwing up,etc) are rare.

He takes Phurenol (spelling?) and Immitrex for the most part. For the minor ones - Excedrin.

I keep a steady supply of all 3 of those in my purse for those times he needs something - better to catch it early before it escalates.

    Update-

Just got back from my doc appointment. He wants to run some tests which I expected; MRI of my head, chest x-ray (?), blood work and an appointment with an opthmalogist. I go back to see him on the 22nd. He gave me a trial med Trimetrix (generic imatrix I think) to try. He told me when I should take one and if it worked he would write a script for it. Well, shortly after he shined the light in my left eye (ten minutes later) I could feel one coming. So I took one. Right now it feels like my left eye wants to pop out and roll around on the floor and I can feel the pain above my left eye brow starting. I took the med about an hour ago. I don't think it is working yet.

I've had migraines my whole life. I've learned most of the triggers. Lack of sleep, not having coffee as soon as I wake up and alchohol are the top ones. I have noticed that as I get older they are getting less severe. I get a perscription for Oxycodone that works for me if they get to bad. The only thing that really works sometimes is just to go to sleep in a dark room. Migraines just plain suck.:(

im gonna let u in a little secret... its called "Trigger Point Therapy"

i do this and i help get rid of H/As & migraines

find a local Massage Therapist, interview them over the phone, make sure they know how to do this modality and BAM! they will be gone

and u can also benefit from gettin massages in helpin u sleep better.

i would suggest u come down here and get one from me, but im sure thats a little out of yur way.

but if yur H/As are really bad & cant seem to find any alternative.... im sure u can figure out how to get here :D
