I think you're taking the NYC Traffic Armor to a new level. Do you have those little rubber strips that go around your bumper corners?

It's actually not bad at all. It's not as comfortable as stock obviously but the seats provide very good support and I just rest my arm on the roll cage... It definitely works well.

Hey mike, doesn't anyone make a 1/2 shaft to go along with the longtravel kit?

Both Camburg and Total Chaos do. I have the Camburg shafts but need to install them in the factory CV joints. Inner is a piece of cake but that outer will require a 20-ton press. It's one of those easy-to-assemble, impossible-to-disassemble designs.

On the bright side you can be pretty certain that shaft will never come loose on the outer CV while wheeling. :p

I got the axle out of the outer CV joint cages but it took a 50 ton press. This is no joke. The 20 ton press could not budge the thing and the 50 ton press was slowing down before the internal c-clip finally let go.

Once that clip was dislodged I was able to press the axles out with a standard puller.

I finally dropped my skidplates, continued disassembling the front passenger side suspension, and ran into a snag. The bolt holding the front of the lower control arm in place is seized within the LCA. I suspect it's something else I broke last year when I while testing at Barstow but I won't know for certain until I get the whole assembly cut apart and inspect it.

In itself this doesn't sound like much of an issue. A sawzall will make disassembly a breeze, but that bolt controls wheel alignment. With it frozen within the LCA the alignment would change as the suspension cycled. Eventually the tabs that keep things in place bent, so those will need to be reinforced and/or replaced along with the LCA alignment bolts.

I'd just be happy being finished! I'll be in Primm September 9th through the 13th! :D

Big enough to scare the hell out of me. The machine itself wasn't massive but the forces were nerve wracking! I jumped when the c-clip let go. Both times.

I think that I'm also going to make a baja truck. I figure that I should start by removing the engine and finish by putting on a bunch of stickers.

Save some cash and keep the budget low. Skip the stickers.

I figure I could sell the engine and the transmission and spend some extra money on the horses.

Refueling is always a concern. Make sure you get some that like burritos.
