I'd go this route. The Fluid Film could be applied to the moving parts of the suspension, threaded collar and coils without affecting performance or having to be concerned with overspray (as opposed to paint).

I'm definitely taking the Fluid Film approach on the shock body threads and a few other areas, but I wouldn't want to use it on or near the heim joints or uniballs. Attracting dirt to those things rarely ends well.

It's been working for me so far. I didn't use it on the ball itself. Although I did use it on the outside of the uniballs when installing them in the cups that way they don't seize inside the cup (no they don't spin or move at all)

You should buy a nice, rust free 1st gen. I know of one for sale.

Just be careful. Once regular snow and ice hits the lowlands, and they start using salt on the roads, all bets are off. :)

I do have to post some pics one of these days -- the shocks actually look presentable now. The driver's side stuff is ready for reassembly onto the truck and the passenger side shocks are ready for paint.

I've been disassembling everything just to make sure stuff still moves and works properly. Removing the uniballs from the lower control arms required my 20 ton shop press, and when they let go it sounded like a gunshot. Removed the rust from the outer uniball housing and from the mount they insert into, coated the surfaces with Fluid Film, and reassembled everything without issue. All the metal is getting a fresh coat of gloss black paint while I'm at it.

Before everything goes back together I'm pulling the front differential for a regear since everything else is already out of the way. It'll be nice once it's done, but for now I'm looking pretty trashy with the truck on stands and the yellow LeMons car being resurrected simultaneously.

The snap ring came out without issue but that uniball did not want to come out!

    ahhh.... hmmm

Pic shows FK balls in there. Wonder if your were chrome? You put stainless balls back in?

I got my UCA uniballs out with a wood clamp and some wooden blocks, but mine were in much better shape then yours I'm sure.

When I took mine off I was in my backyard and the snap ring flew out 10 yards into my grass. Took me the better part of 1/2 day to find it :frusty::D
