No, that is a byproduct of the stamping process for the ribs. Once you bolt it down it will be flat. As long as you don't have any extreme bends you are good. The bow is normal.

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Bit of a PITA to install, but works well. Would recommend adding one more 7/16" bolt. Mine was really rounded over at the end and slipped a lot.

Also, there are some holes near the corner that will fit those riv nuts, so be very careful on install so you don't fuck something up.

AGREED.. Add onto that, I was using a ratchet with a pivot head...I feel like I punched a brick wall a few times...cruel tease to include that for pressing them in but it is needed..future installers: you can buy an actual press tool for these on the hardware website OP posted earlier..it may definitely be worth it but I was impatient!

it's now installed though and looks good!

Definitely more scratch resistant..as far as rigiditiy. I was surprised at how rigid the factory plastic was..about the same..I'm sure the hardware kit will help with rigidity though.

Looking forward to a cap to work as a system.

Really all that is needed for strength is a piece of angle iron that has cut aways and distributed a center load to the whole tailgate. Although a full cap will be nice as my plastic cap is getting chewed up from ramps.

Something else too. The included washers are too small to install over the plastics tailgate cap. When tightened down they start to distort the plastic as the washer slips into the hole. I had to but 1" fender washers (stainless) and will install them shortly.

Not sure if the future install kits could include black oxide bolts, as I will have to order some or spray paint the existing fasteners black.

I don't think the factory skin is the same as the metal one. I can stand on the metal one without it cracking. Can't do that with the plastic one.

When do you guys think you'll have the metal cap ready?

Also... I heard you guys were working on a metal rear bumper. Any updates on that?

At least 6 weeks. Access to a 3rd gen for dimension is hard to come by. The first iteration of the cap that we made just wasn't up to standards. We realized we wanted to go a different route and needed some dimensions we didn't get the first time.

Long story short, we will have a 3rd gen for the weekend coming up and will finish up the design. Then it's just getting them made. Everything takes forever.

We finished the design for a 2nd gen rear bumper. Our prototype should be done in the next couple weeks. We are starting the design on a 3rd gen version this weekend. Stayed tuned. I wouldn't say it will be done soon, but it's in the works.

On the 2nd gen, we recommended putting the stock cap under the Tailgate Skin. Not sure if it will work the same on the 3rd gen. Just a thought.

It should work...I wonder if water shedding would be an issue?..

I'm not sure this would work too well that way. The plastic the cap is made of is 1/8" thick and wouldn't allow the skin to sit flush.

Yeah I know exactly what you are talking about...its the first test I did.. And it feels much more solid stepping on it.. I just meant overall tailgate bending support.

Don't get me wrong this is definitely an improvement!

I did hate to take a drill to a new truck though. :/

Edit: but metal fasteners are wayyyy better than plastic clips and coarse threads.

Mine came last week, replaced the plastic nuts with rivet-nuts provided by mobtown (optional hardware, worth the price) purchased Black-oxide 18-8 Stainless Steel 1" socket button-head screws and 3/8" washers from http://www.albanycountyfasteners.com. You
cannot tell the Taco didn't come that way. The sound and feel of the new configuration is much beefier. The Albany County button-head screws are also about 1/4" longer than those provided by Mobtown, giving more bite in the rivet-nuts. Can hardly wait for the caps to
    be available.

If you are trying to decide whether to pull the trigger, don't hesitate - this is a quality product. You will not be disappointed. . .

Unfortunately no. We get the best rates we are currently offered through the cheapest place we found which happens to be FedEx.
