Mobtown Rock Slider Install Trouble

    They can chime in and give a definitive answer, but I'd say no, that's not possible due to the design of them.

    FWIW, my Mobtown sliders flex pretty good, too. But I'm not surprised, expected them to be more giving than weld-on and added to the fact that the Taco frame is flexible, the bolt-on flexes more and the long arms creating a large moment. So far they've worked fine for sliders and if I need to jack up with a Hi-Lift I'll jam a block of wood between the slider and pinch seam to cushion a little.

    In the mini truck world a cat named Roger Brown, who is pretty highly regarded, actually makes his sliders to intentionally flex into the pinch seam. The seam is actually very strong and his intention is to spread the force that will inevitable happen over it, so he puts the intermediate rail directly under it.

    I tried to avoid this flexing with the set on my '91, didn't put a middle beam, just long arms using square pipe and they were well gusseted. They flexed into the rockers eventually anyway. I knew full well what I was getting into and the reason I chose bolt-on was the ability to re-finish them periodically because the ones I welded on the the frame rusted and had to be cut off.

    You can see the dents in the pinch seam and barely make out the little bit of an indent in the rocker above it.

    What a douche bag! @Mobtown Offroad has some of the best customer service I have ever dealt with. That's a bold move to throw him his money back without even getting the product back. Especially of an amount that large. Good for you, that's something to be proud of.

    It was very rare for anyone to have issues with the sliders contacting the pinch seam to the point where it causes damaged. I should show you how hard I've hit ours on the trails and have no damage to the truck. Hard enough to dent the living shit out of the DOM tubing we use. I've seen multiple videos of guys sending us what they've done in their truck with our sliders, cringe worthy and no damage.

    ALL bolt on sliders can and will flex, but design improvements where the flange attaches to the chassis, proper tube placement, gusset placement and thickness all constitutes whether or not they will flex a lot or flex a little. We made absolutely sure that ours will flex the least amount out of any bolt on slider on the market.

    We had them tucked up nice and tight to the pinch seam but far enough away to not contact to the point where damage could occur under load or "shocking" them against an object. We moved them down 1/4" from where they use to be positioned a while back just for added security even though we felt there was no reason to be concerned.

    Very good point. I've talked to, visually looked at and talked to different guys that have built full on rock crawling buggies and they have all built them to flex every so slightly into the pinch seam. I never understood why but it is certainly a thing...

    Part of it is for the strength. If you space it just right the movement of everything, say 1/4" or whatever, means that last few hundred pounds is all the pinch seam has to deal with and it can do that. Since the way the cab sits on the the frame of mini trucks means there's not really enough room for the arms to go straight out doing this lets you maximize clearance without a body lift or angling the arms down much. You can see how I tried to deal with it with the scab plates welded to lower the tie points so the arms would be straight. Didn't work, but that was the theory anyway.

    Thats what I was wanting to know from my initial post. Not that it really matters now since you said mine was post revision, but I was just wanting to make sure it wasn't going to be pushing on it so much as to crack the weld. On a side note, it would be pretty cool if you guys had a section or just a different featured video every so often on your website of your customer's videos showing off your products.

    I didn't read past the first page. But Mobtown sliders are stout, especially when correctly installed. This is the whole side of my truck off the ground, slider didn't move 1/8"

    FWIW, I have the motown sliders for my long bed and they have been great. They can take a beating. I did have to grind about a 1/4 inch off the end because it rubbed on a weld point, too easy. Just letting folks know don't let this turn you off.

    Mobtown even worked with me for shipping all the way out to Hawaii because my group buy order got messed up. Bottom-line, they give good customer service, evident by previous posts, because it is vital in this day and age as a small business owner.

    I don't know how much more reasonable SquirrelTurd expects Mobtown to be.

    And ever since then, we shortened the flange on our sliders by 1/4" on the DCLB.

    That's the point we were all like WTF, Aussiek is a good dude with actual info to contribute and the thread looked like the other dude needed banned instead.
