I'm guessing that you are referring to the .675 ball that came with your GPS? You need to buy a RAM Mount cradle for the particular model GPS, then you can use the 1" Ram balls.

I've had the parts to do this for a couple years now. Time to get it done.

If my truck didn't come with Nav I would do this mod. Oh hell.... I may just do it anyway because it looks cool as shit

Good job OP for making me do more work

Glad to see that this one is still helping others. One thing I've noticed is that a few of you have made it a point to keep the bottom of your mounted device above the lip of your dash to save room for your hands while driving. I tried that but I found that if I rolled the double socket arm the right way I could lower the device a bit and angle the arm towards the dash a bit and still have plenty of room for my hands while driving. Loosen the arm a bit and rotate it while you force it to articulate on the ball mount to see what the differences are in positioning that are still convenient and safe.

I haven't updated the thread with my hidden wiring details because I've been dealing with some surgeries - heading back in on Friday for another one - and I'm waiting on the arrival of some long ago ordered parts so I can knock a bunch of stuff out simultaneously. Keep the pictures and the notes on what you did to make different arms and attachments fit coming as sooner or later it's bound to help someone.

Brilliant! For those that use a sun shield with this set up, does the mount and accessory get in the way?

    I have something like this.

I use a similar type of sun shield and if anything it helps hold it in place better. But then again I start putting it in place starting from the drivers side and work my way across.

I visited 3 hardware stores today; couldn't find anything larger than 40mm :annoyed:
I have everything wired up. Just waiting to find the socket head screw.

That's frustrating. I always try to dip into the mom and pop shops too but sometimes I'm forced to head out to the big guys. Do you have any Menards/Lowes/Home Depot stores in the area? How about a West Marine store? Lots of hardware in them too.

I'm in the South Bay and have a spare (Phillips head, not socket) that I had briefly mounted on the passenger side. If you ever make it down this way you can have it.

Thank you :) I will continue the search today. Hopefully one if these stores carried that size :fingerscrossed:
