Thats just the way the X-mounts are.. When your phone is in the mount, the 2 arms are sprung up away from their stopping points. The phone spreads them out basically. This allows the entire unit to rotate a little bit until one of the arms hits the plastic.

Im probably not doing a good job explaining this...

Without a phone in the mount, try to mimic the same rotation movement by grabbing the two arms. You wont be able to because nothing is loose. Now put your phone in and watch the arms from the top down while you rotate the phone. Should be able to see what Im talking about..

Honestly over the 100s and 100s of miles of dirt roads Ive done it hasnt been a problem. Just get your phone kinda centered left/right so its balanced in the mount

But if it still bothers you, check out the Vehicle or Powersport catalogs. Ram Mounts makes like a million different mounts.. you just gotta know the P/N to order it

You explained the problem to a tee. This is exactly what i was talking about kinda irks me though i wouldn't mind if it was a little stiffer but the thing rotates wayyy to freely i'll try adding the little rubber bra that came with it see if that helps.

I understand what you are saying.

Yes, mine can rotate also, but it rarely does. Once the phone is in place, it stays put.

What kind of case, if any, is your phone it? Mine is in an Otterbox Defender, which has a rubber shell. I wonder if that is what keeps my phone from freely rotating....

yup. This is very intentional and in my mind a design WIN, not a design flaw. I have over 8k miles with this phone mount on a motorcycle, ZERO issues, and another 80k in various cars. That bit of play allows for it to be bumped with zero strain to the mount, be it on a suction cup or a mirror locator or whatever. It also allows the mount to accomodate a variety of sizes with equal holding pressure. Its f*cking brilliant.

I agree I put it on when the truck was new and it has been rock solid no matter what I hang off of it.

The USB came from Amazon and is hard wired into the ignition so it is hot only when the truck is running. I like the USB plug / mount there so I can power anything I put in the Pillar mount.

So I don’t know technically which is the “right” part number because I when I went there to pick up the corrected order I got the same thing. Before I left I checked the part number and I told the guy that it was the same one I had. Long story short, the computer says that 74617-04050-BO is the top one and 74617-04040-BO is the bottom one but it the other way around. He said that he’s seen it miss labeled one other time.

    So to my knowledge

    Top: 74617-04040-BO
    Bottom: 74617-04050-BO

No problem. And thank you. I’m too anal for missing parts. You should see this scanguage Mount I had this dude made for me. It’s super slick. I’ll post a link of it in a second.
