No. It doesn't affect it, the force from it deploying might toss your phone which could be bad if you're pinned and need to call for help.

For those of you asking about Ultragauge or Scangauge mounts using this method, I designed a couple of a-pillar brackets. These would work on their own to hold the UG or the SG, or in combination with the phone RAM mounts discussed in this thread. Have a look:

Changed to a 75mm bolt and two spacers in lieu of washers to cover the distance and boom, works in a 1st gen Tundra as well.

Yes you need to mount the 1” ball to the A-Pillar with the bolt and washers. Here’s The Links:

Guys am I missing something here ? I bought all the recommended hardware and when i assemble it and tighten up that ball is as loosey goosey as they come ! It’s supposed to be non mobile right ? It’s as if the shaft of the ball is so loose. I tried the 50mm and both the 55mm to no avail
    Parts I used were :
    1) Ram ball mount
    2) Two 6mm nuts with a split washer in between them
what am I missing ? I saw where @boogie3478 used a 75mm bolt on his YouTube vid. Is that the key?

Is your hardware lined up like in my vid? Checkout 4:22 in the vid for the arrangement. As long as the nuts and split washer are tightened against the ball mount it should be good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwmxBYjjnpc&t=278s

could my issue be that my bolt has a smooth tapered area before the bolt head that isn’t threaded? That’s prob why it stops and is loose ? Looks like the link you have listed for the longer bolt is threaded all the way up?

Ah yeah that's probably it. How long is the unthreaded portion of your bolt? You might be able to get around that my using a few more of the nuts to cover whatever that unthreaded distance is.
