Figured id throw out the feelers and see if anyone was interested in a mod day or mini mod day. I have some top plate spacers I want to run with my 885s and bilstein shocks, but they need to be installed and I have no tools. Before going to my buddies at Sierra expeditions and paying to have them done, I figured id ask and see if anyone had any more they were looking to get done, or if anybody felt like rolling up their sleeves and helping out.

Thanks! It'd be good to see everyone again, I missed the last meet...hopefully we can get something going.

    Hey Nick,
You can use my spring compressor if you like.
Figure out when and I may be able to help also.

I'd definitely want to do something with my shocks also. I'm just trying to crank up the 5100's one notch

Sweet...thank you Steve! I remember when we did my coils we held off on the spacers because of the 3 top strut bolts (maybe they were rusted?). I'm wondering if they can be pounded in/out with a hammer or if they need to be machine pressed in/out. Maybe I should look into having a shop press them out? Thoughts? Also, my schedule is pretty open these next couple weeks, so if you'd want to help out, I can work around your schedule. Nick, I'm down to do yours when we do mine too!!!

I gotta in stall some 5100's so I may be down for this. We can use my garage but I don't got a spring compressor. If I remember you can use a floor jack to compress everything to get it off.

I've use Steve's compressor a couple times already...works like a charm. I agree w nick though, basically you can just put pressure (the weight of the truck) on the spring by jacking up the LCA, unscrewing the top plate nut, and then releasing the tension on the LCA from the jack. Seems far from safe though..

I remember we rented a spring compressor from autozone and it didn't fit between the coils. Totally worthless. I would prefer to use a spring compressor that is for sure.

Steve's spring compressor was crafted during the rise of the Roman Empire, and has stood the test of time with valiant prowess.

    But seriously, it works.

I've done that method at least a dozen times with no issues. It was a tad scary looking the first time, but it's very straightforward and I've felt safe every time I've done it. A sturdy floor jack, flat floor, and proper thought/care during execution are critical. But like you said, to each their own. Whatever way makes you feel safest is the best way for you.

    Good luck!

It's how I did the suspension on my truck, super easy and I felt a ton safer tham when I used auto zone spring compressors on my 5 lug suspension.

Subbed. Depending on the day, and location, I might be able to make it.

sweet! Just the man I wanted to talk to. Considering jumping to 886s as opposed to adding spacers to my 885s (I'm a 4x4, have heard its a bad idea to go with spacers on the 885s with a 4wd). Have a 60 Pound allpro aluminum bumper coming in that is causing the change. Thoughts??

Also, 885s are around 5100s right now...is 886s with 5100s as opposed to ome shocks a no go?

60#'s isn't a lot of weight. Depending on the spacer size, I think you would be fine with the 885's. Don't use the 886's unless you get the OME shocks.

Right on...the spacers are 1/2". The new (longer) too hat bolts would need to be pressed in right?

yeah, but you can use nuts to pull the studs in. Easy as pie! :)
