I'd be interested to hear your results. I had an aftermarket stereo in my 10' and grounding the wire that goes from the parking break to the stereo allowed me to play DVDs while driving (a life saver on road trips with a 5 year old kid at the time).

I have a 14' now and if grounding a wire would result in full functionality on the stock HU then I'd love to be able to do it. Sometimes it's a PITA when my wife can't use the nav while I'm driving.

all you have to do is cut / remove that purple white wire from the plug on the head unit.

That wire is a speed wire from the ECU, so the stock HU goes if truck is over 0 or 1 mph you loose functionality... if it doesnt see a signal from that wire, then the HU goes well it must be at 0 mph.

It looks though as if people were having trouble with that wire cut as it would allow them to program the GPS, but the GPS was having tracking issues with the wire not connected so some people were adding a switch so they can break the contact on that wire, program the GPS and then witch it back to the wire is making contact again.

Me personally I'd rather not have to deal with a switch as it hasn't been enough of an issue... that being said if there was a simple way to achieve the results without the use of a switch then I would be all over it. Maybe on my way home from work tonight I'll try depressing the ebrake just enough to set off the light in the dash and see if that frees up the GPS controls. That would be quite easy to mod so you had functionality all the time, but I'm sure it's just wishful thinking.

Tried slightly depressing the emergency brake while driving to see if it would allow for the GPS to be programmed and that was a no go. Looks like this will be the best (only known?) option until something else pops up.

Thanks OP! Not being able to enter an address/POI while driving pretty much made the NAV useless for me. This fixed it!

Hey Yogster did you ever get around to testing the parking brake grounding?

So, what's the best way to get those pins out without damaging anything??

Edit: I have a 13 base unit with no nav. Just trying to gain full phone functionality while moving. No need for a switch.

Did you try this? I also have a non-navigation one and want to be able to read the text on the screen while driving. I just haven't looked back there yet.

Just did it and it worked! All I did was snipped the wire and tucked it back. Now I can read texts and use the dial pad while moving.
