I have been modified worn out shifters on XRU for several years. I have also done them for a few members here.

I buy old shifters and refurbish them. I remove the old worn out internal rubber bushings and replace them with a polyurethane epoxy. This will make the shifter very firm and will far outlast the stock shifter. In this process, I usually cut the height of the shifter down 1 ~ 1 1/2 inches.

Today, I have a Stock Height Shifter a 4WD. This one is stock height and the existing rubber bushings have been backfilled with polyurethane epoxy. This will shift much firmer than a stock shifter, especially if your internally bushings are worn out & wobbly. This also works well with an URD SS.

Price is $120 shipped + your old oem shifter. I ship the shifters with a new white tip bushing.

If anybody is on the fence about these, coupe does an awesome job! They feel so much more tight and firm after he rebuilds them. Great product and he sends install instructions that are super easy to follow. I definitely recommend to everybody

Have you done this with an FJ yet? It looks like a very similar shifter assembly, and mine definitely is worn out.

This is a 6 sp only. It Is possible to rebuild a 5 spd in a similar fashion.
