moding my badges

ok so just recently i completely debadged my 2007 off road trd double cab taco. i have decided that i want to individualize the letters on some of the badges paint them and re badge my truck. i have been using the badges that i am not going to be reattaching as test pieces so that i dont mess up the ones going back on. however i am coming accross the problem that i cant get the paint to hold on the badges it keeps scratching off rather easy. i have tried scratching the surface of the badges but still can't get it to work. i have seen that there are a lot of taco's on here with painted badges, so could please tell me if there is a certain paint needed to get the paint to hold or do i have to completely strip the silver surface for it to work or what? thanx

im new to plasti dipp, is it hard to work with? how durable is it?

 

sprays on like rattle can but its not very durable

 

Not sure if any hardware stores around you carry it... But there are chemical adhesion promoters out there that chemically prep badges for paint to be applied, rather than use sandpaper and score them. Dupli-Color is sold on Amazon for about 9 bucks. Not too shabby. There are also ones like this, in my link.
