dont tell me what i should and shouldnt do...thats what my parents are for.

i pay gas, and for the truck. my parents put the down payment and insurance.

its alot more than some kids pay. and im not ashamed i drive a sick ass truck at 18. im not gonna hide it. why would i? and even if i didnt pay for any of that? who gives a damn. its my shit not yours.

and what i pay or dont pay for does not concern you or anyone else here.

sorry my parents didnt want me to drive some piece of shit saturn that breaks down every weekend.

i know that i am blessed for the life i live. i am thankful for every thing i have.

and honestly do you think someone going to college and working a part time job can pay for all that? did you pay for all that at 18?

$4k deep here, and barely scratched the surface. But I'm a big boy and spend my own money.

You need to calm down hot shot. No one's accusing you of anything. But that reality check got you plenty riled, which is not uncommon when reality is laid bare before those who haven't yet left the nest.

And before you get tiffed about what you spend not being our concern, I'll simply remind you that you brought the subject up in the first place.

It's good that you contribute what you can to do your part, and it's good that you appreciate (mostly) what you have. Just realize it's a long uphill to maintain the standard you're used to once you're out from under MomNPop's wings.

As for paying all that at 18, I paid for everything I listed while working part time during college except for:

    - Car payment. I had already bought and paid off my first car during high school. It was a high mileage 1992 Honda in good condition. It served me well for 6 years.

    - Car insurance. I got this as a birthday gift (for the first 6 months of the year) and an Xmas gift (for the second half of the year). Suffice to say, I didn't get much else from mom n dad on these occasions.

It was not easy, but it can be done.

Grad school, I had to take loans for some of these expenses, because it demands so much of your time in and out of class that I was not able to work except on weekends.

I hear you! The OP will not want to show his lovely wife your post or mine. A fool and his money are soon parted. It is a truck, not an ego booster.

I've spent a few bucks but it's all been worth it (except the bug shield). Got a lot more planned but all in due time...

I slept fine last night, thanks.

Nothing was on my chest at any point. Which is why I'm not getting irate and flippant. I didn't expect you to really care about any of what I said - teens don't, God knows I didn't think anyone else had anything valuable to say at 18 - but you'll come back to it all in due time. A nickel's worth of free advice is free though.
