Early yesterday morning we had a call for a motor vehicle accident. When we went enroute we recieved the update..."Engine 4, Rescue 5, report of a vehicle that has struck a moose, 2 people injured and the moose is still alive....inside the car."

When we arrived on scene, the two occupants had gotten themselves out of the car and as the following link to the local paper shows, the moose, which had expired, was indeed partially in the back seat (see second pic). Apparently, it stayed alive for a period of time and if there had of been anyone sitting in the rear the results would have been catastophic. We had some difficulty packaging the driver who was visibly shaken and shocky but it is a good thing we were able to because as it turns out he had sustained a broken neck.

I would put the animal at around 3-4 years old and perhaps 5-600 lbs. They come a LOT bigger but as you can see even the smaller ones are very dangerous when encountered in your vehicle.

    Careful out there folks.....
