I got a letter from Toyota stating that they are are (still) having frame problems with the Tacoma’s.

Why don’t they coat these frames before they sell them?

I'm sure its the bean counters somewhere stopping it. It seems the issues are mainly in snow/ice states where they salt the roads. To cover every Tacoma frame would be wasteful as they do not where the truck is going during the build process.
Does it make more sense to send them out and then spend money on recalls? We don't know that, but someone, somewhere, is getting paid to figure that out.

Interesting, I'll have to double check my mail, I'm assuming in NJ I will get it. Thanks for the info.

This letter initially came out quite some time ago (60-90 days ago?).

Interesting it only includes 2011>2017 model years.

Frames being delivered recently at a local Toyota dealership.

I live in NY and I have not gotten one of these letters yet. I am thinking of calling a dealer and seeing what they have to say.

Oh man, I’ll still have to double check but not sure if I got one.

Not a bad idea, I would think both of us would be in the designated region to get this letter.

Any reason they didn't include the 2018s? Did they do something different with that model year, or just too new to know yet?

I just checked my 1996 frame for rust a few days ago, 24 years old and 414,000 miles and still solid as a rock.
I hope my 2018 TRD Sport fares that well.

Unless your frame is starting to rust out... In which case you should go get it checked at the dealer. It says it right on the letter about half of the way down.

If you have experienced this condition, please contact any authorized Toyota dealer...

They're evidently replacing some frames per the photos I posted above.

If it costs Toyota say $10k to do a warranty frame swap and they do, I dunno, 10% of them it sure seems like to me it would be cheaper to dip every frame in anti-corrosion coat regardless of where they go. Rust happens everywhere except the desert southwest.
Up to 2010 was already covered by a service campaign from a lost class action suit. The frames are covered out to 12 years from their in-service date, e.g. the first registration date.

^ I was more referring to 2018 and 2019s not being covered, but as more recently stated, 2018s and 2019s are coated. If that's true, let's hope it works.

Gotcha. I think it's just too early, see if in a year or two they're on it.

There's no reason to think they did or will. They sell them as fast as they build them despite things like this.

The frame on my 2017 has some rust on it, I was gonna try and fix it myself but never got around to it. I think I’ll let the dealer fix it.

I'd just have them document it. I think any fix they'll do is to coat the frame with the CRC stuff or whatever they're using now. I would not let them do that.
