Any other Canadians get their frames inspected by a Toyota dealership?

Have an appt tomorrow morning to take my truck in for the frame rust campaign. Will update on what they say/do.

On a side note, what do you guys recommend i do with the small (2-4 mm spot of rust) on the frame directly behind the front tire. I'm sure its from a rock chip that got deep enough to start to rust. I'm thinking light wire brush, spray with some kind of black rustoleum (or something else you guys recommend?) then FF over the top of it all

Thanks I'll give a few cans of ACF-50 a shot in the spring when I clean up the frame

Yikes! I got my 2019 Fluid Filmed this year, plan to keep doing it 2x per year to keep it clean.

Toyota makes great cars, but the metal quality is definitely suspect compared to our German vehicles. Funny because the actual mechanical components are far more reliable on the Toyotas. But my anecdotal evidence:
    • My 95' M3 never saw winter, but I just sold it this Thanksgiving and it had 0 rust underneath without any protection ever being applied.
    • My Wife's 2017 X3 has been driven in every snowstorm, and the underside and even the fasteners and hardware are totally rust free. It has never had any rust protection applied.
    • My Tacoma got fluid filmed this fall when it was 3 months old, so we will see how it holds up, but it had slight corrosion starting on some of the fasteners when it was brand new.
    • My 2016 Lexus IS350 has quite a bit of rust underneath already, especially on the fasteners/hardware. I just fluid filmed that too to hopefully slow it down.

I think I would have kept the 95 M3 if it was stock. It's sad that most of them are ragged out now

It's super clean, and I'd call it OEM+. 116K miles, leather's nearly perfect, new OE door cards in 2018, new headliner in 2019. It's got a SuperSprint catback, Turner reinforcement plates all around, H&R sport springs, and Bilstein B8 shocks, plus Dinan shock tower mounts and the BMW Motorsport factory X-Brace. Meticulous maintenance history.

BUT - I had my first child early this year and the car was only driven a couple of times after that. It just sat in the garage under a cover. A good buddy of mine offered to buy it, so I let him take it. At least it'll get used the way it was intended, and I can still ride in it occasionally. Here are a couple of photos - with and without the track day wheels.

Sorry for the off topic detour

Curious if you have used fluid film or not and your preference. I may give it a shot in the spring instead of FF and see how it applies/holds up

Check your owners manual about washing the undercarriage.

My 03 was coated in 08. Dealer had to work hard to clean the undercarriage bc I used Fluid Film. 15 year extended warranty on frame rust. On the 16th year I got rust holes in frame. Fluid Film even if you get treated.

So even with the dealership treatment and regular fluid film it rusted through? That makes me sad, I was hoping that fluid film would save mine from rot rather than just delay it.

It just delays the inevitable. Metal, salt, moisture and time are all at play here. You can only do what you can do to delay

No. I did not say that. The CRV was supposed to prevent rust. I stopped using FF and frame rusted under the CRC coat. I'm back to fluid film after frame rust repairs.

If I lived in New England I would get the dealer applied CRC. 12 year extended warranty, follow owners manual about undercarriage care and use FF, rinse off road salts and reapply FF annually.

Fluid film is good stuff, but I don't care for how greasy and nasty is gets. If you're also haphazardly just spray it on stuff it will degrade rubber which makes me wonder what it will do to rock guard and body seam sealer over time

Got my first letter today. Don't know how I feel about this CRC campaign, I definitely won't get it right away.

I imagine if you don't do it you're forfeiting the extended warranty
