Just a quick hit on these: They are on sale at Crutchfield for $299.99. These speakers are pretty highly regarded and are an amazing value at this price point. The Crutchfield "what fits my car" says they do not fit for the 2016-2018 3rd gen Tacoma, but they absolutely do. If you are going to go the amp route on your truck, this is a great set of speakers. Fill those door holes up!

The adapter Metra 82-8146 is what I used. I spoke via chat with a service rep to make sure that the proper harness/adapter was added to my cart (for free), because the website will not add the free things to your cart if the what fits my car app says the speakers do not fit.

    morel4 - Copy.jpg morel 1.jpg

I have the 6x9 drivers installed in place of the PPI drivers I had, not hooked up to their proper crossovers yet, but being powered by an Arc Audio XDi 850.5, and they sound great so far. As soon as my tweeter adapters come in, the tweeters will go in the OEM spot on the dash, everything will be put on the proper crossovers with new wiring.

I installed the speakers with the windows down, and there is clearance/room-no issues.

The one thing I do not like is the connection terminals. They could have done a better job on these, but it's not a deal breaker at all.

Keep in mind, I have not installed the tweeters yet. Also, these need to be powered. Here is a comparison of the speakers I removed to the Morels:

Gonna be a few weeks. I have camping trips the next 2 weekends. I can probably do it piecemeal during the week next week, but I have a lot going on then too. I ordered tweeter mounts from http://www.car-speaker-adapters.com/items.php?id=SAK009 and don't know when they will be in anyway. I have a couple of other things to tighten up as well with the sub so I'm going to be removing the rear seats again. I think what is going to take the longest is just removing the rear seats (I'm going to put the crossovers in the driver side rear storage). Running wires will be easier on this truck than it was on my Tundra because the door grommets are easier....

As a temporary install for the tweeters you can pick up some pipe straps from your local hardware store:

    316D7543-3C19-46AA-8045-11F1B56BF732.jpg

I used #8x1/2” sheet metal screws through the strap and included screw clips to secure the tweeters to the straps.

very nice. It's still a matter of time to do it though. I need a good solid 4 hours without the wife redirecting me every 10 minutes, or the teenagers not bugging out about something LOL.

Not sure about 3rd gen but removing seats in double cab 2nd gen is not bad at all. Sounds like it sound be a nice upgrade!

Where are you getting the tweeters adapter from? I custom 3d print them for the correct size. A few members on here have them.

    I gt them from http://www.car-speaker-adapters.com/items.php?id=SAK009

How about 3d printing some sail panels for tweeters? I'd pay good money for that....

    Hey Ron,

Did you come up with a strategy to mount your tweeters? I bit the bullet and ordered the tempo 6x9 components ...

I have thought about using the smaller tweeter cup to surface mount it to the sail panels, or use the round flush-mount ring and create a small ring spacer to offset the needed space behind the sail. Not sure how it would look but that may be something that could be more easily 3d printed :)

I am going to put them in the dash until someone smarter than me makes something lol.

Waiting for the adapters to come in.

I want to circle back to this real quick. The biggest issue with the sail panels is the curve of them. If you could print something that compensates for that curve, that would be golden, because you wouldn't have to heat the panel to flatten it out, and you could incorporate an angle (aiming the tweeters to the opposite headrests).

I'm putting the crossovers in the driver side under rear seat storage compartment.

    crossovers.jpg

They're not big crossovers by any stretch, but I really don't want to put them in the doors, and want to have easy access to them to adjust the attenuation of the tweeters.

The woofers continue to break in and the bass from those things is so rich and deep, it seems as though you could go with out a sub.

And we are all installed. The doors were WAAAAY easier than I thought they would be. Everything is on the proper crossovers, everything is working, and everything is louder than I really need it to be, which is not a bad thing.

I'm probably going to put Tempo Ultra Integra coaxials in the back and get rid of the kickers.

    @CoastieRon

I'm assuming you ran a new pair of speaker wires from the components in each door to the crossover in the storage compartment? Essentially bypassing the stock speaker wiring...

Crap..i just read your link... appears you did run new wires through the door jam. Thanks!

I'm currently using a set of Eclipse 6x9 components up front... thinking about upgrading to the Morels.

Yep. Brand new wiring for the dash and front doors. To the crossover, crossovers to the amp.

Here’s a shot I took from inside the front driver’s door, using the Metra speaker adapter with CCF 3/8” thick weatherstripping between the door and adapter:

    E28C8AE1-B03B-40CD-9EF6-45A857DFE90A.jpg

How’s your clearance on the front of the speaker? It seems awfully close to the door’s grill. Notice any issues with speaker excursion hitting the door?
