    No need to hack/cut anything.

@kimopods, If you need to have the front TURN signals NOT do their DRL function:

Hmm I know this is the wiring diagram, but which part shows where you dont have to cut the green/red wire? I'm kinda an idiot, sorry!

The part where the relay DRL input doesn't get to the front TURN lamps due to the jumpers bypassing the DRL signal from the relay.

Ah ok, good to know about the jumpers. If it bugs me enough I'll fix the cut I did last night :lalala:

    Thanks!

1M from the harness would NOT be used.

so i would just need a jumper for the 1m harness and do not cut the green with red tracer wire in slot 10?

Correct. Some tape to secure the removed 1M.
But you still require the added relay to activate the DRL's on the Morimoto's. That would be tied to pin 10 on 1M, like post #101.

and the added relay would be wired as displayed in post #73?

    Yes
or Keep everything in the engine bay area and only run the DRL wire to the Cab (BECU)

would the body ecu be in the same area where the 1M harness is located? behind the interior fuse box?

    Hi guys,

From reading this thread is the Morimoto led upgraded headlight kit preferred over Alpharex or any other brand? Spec-D and Spyder seem to have poor reviews. I have a 2015 TRD Sport and am looking for a smoky black lens bar white light (plug and play). Recommendations very appreciated!

I chose the Morimoto because I know they're a quality company. I love the lights. They are awesome.

Yes alpharex are awful. I’ve been dazzled by morons running them around here. Absolutely no light focusing.

Forum member Crashburn has a good run down of these morimotos I would say is spot on.

I had the choice of OEM or these when my housings shit the bed and I would say the minor decrease in performance over OEM is outweighed by the style for me.

Off road I have more lights than I know what to do with so that isn’t a factor in my decision making.

For $1000 set of headlights you'd think that they would have designed a drl feature that would work with the existing drl switch.
I'm holding off until they come up with a complete kit for this on the next version (if they do).

It’s not a fault of the lights. The factory DRL melts plastic from factory. That’s Toyotas “fault”

The morimoto DRL is meant to be always on. It’s trivial to add a switch to the included wiring harness if you want extra functionality.

First post with TacomaWorld! I just picked a gen2 to build out for over-landing and was excited to do headlight upgrade since the OEM headlights have already fogged and yellowed. After doing some research, I decided to fork up the dough and get the Morioto's and here is summary:

    Good:
    • Cosmetic: looks beautiful with the DRL
    Bad
    • Does not connect to DRL switch so basically ON all the time (tapped into ignition switch).
    • Installation: the fuse wiring harness requires you to push it through the firewall. The instructions show a male/female plug that you can connect/disconnect but in reality there was no connector so I had to cut the wire to feed it thru and then reconnect them.
    • The LED is part of the headlight so if it ever goes out you have to replace the whole headlight (not sure the details of the 5 year warranty)
    • The ultimate deciding factor is performance and light output. As mentioned already there is a sharp cutout on the top portion of the beam so it doesn't project anything beyond that ~25'. The light should project further than that at least to illuminate road signs etc. The actual focus "hot spot" of the beam is very weak honestly would say it's not much better than my fogged up OEM headlights.
Needless to say I will be returning these.

@crashnburn80 - Other than the ultimate headlight upgrade, can you provide a recommendation for aftermarket headlight? My criteria is projection, add DRL, black/smoke housing and light output improvement to OEM.
