I used it the first time on a full length 91/30. The barrel OD was too small and didnt get full threads (the guide keeps it centered on the bore not the outside). I shortened the barrel a little (behind the front sight) and it worked fine. But then I shortened it more and the OD of the barrel was too large so I took it up to the gunsmith.

Shortened to 18.75", the barrel is a little too big to use it. Shortened to 16.125", it definitely needs to to be done on a lathe. I dont know about where you are, but a guy in Portland does it for $100. He is the only one I found that would do it with the receiver and barrel attached. Everyone else would only do it with just the barrel.

This is the 18.75" with an A2 style birdcage. The 16.125" is currently disassembled.

Nice, I've got the same stock and rock solid mount. I need to get mine finished. Any chance you want to sell the bit and tap for the rock solid mount alone?

Im trying to keep everything together. If you have a tool shop nearby, you should be able to get them fairly easily. The bit is a #21 and the tap is 10-32 NF.

@WetTaco, just a note on your RSI mount. JB weld works very well for bedding it to the receiver. Use a very light coating of petroleum jelly on the receiver (and mask off anything you dont want JBW to get on) then use JBW to bed it. It will fill in any gaps and help make it really solid to the receiver (which isnt likely to fit the curve of the RSI mount) but make it so you can pop it off if you need to. Also, dont forget to cut the mount so the SN is visible.

    lucky13don and WetTaco like this.
