Hey guys, I sold my dirt bike trailer and am looking into hitch carriers, as I don't ride often and paying the insurance for the trailer was getting annoying. Im 100% comfortable with putting my wr250f (260lbs) on my hitch, but I've noticed DOUBLE carriers on the market, and I'm wondering if any of you guys have experience with them. I would never put two bikes like mine on one, but one for my daughter would be great. How do you figure a taco would handle with 500 pounds hanging way off the hitch? Is this air bag territory? I already have wheelers HD leaf springs, but I've maxed them out before on long camping trips.... let me know what you think, or your experiences with hitch carriers.

Why not put one bike on the hitch carrier and one in the back of the truck?

I have a canopy, otherwise I wouldn't even consider the hitch carrier! There's no way I'm giving up my dry storage! There was a point in time where I thought about trading for a 4runner, but then I had to transport two goats a couple hundred kilometers and I liked not having to smell the dirty buggers.

That being said, a 50 would fit under the canopy.... it'd just be a PITA to tie down.

    Insurance for a MC trailer?

Or did you have one that had room for bikes and living quarters?

Just a regular 2-3 bike trailer should be cheap to cover if your vehicle coverage doesn't cover it.

Done the single bike carriers, the fulcrum effect with a double wouldn't be anything I'd want to do along with loading and unloading. Much easier with a trailer.

It was a 3 bike trailer and the insurance was $150/year. I might get out riding 6-7 times a year and I don't think I've ever had more than 1 bike on it, hence the switch to a hitch carrier.

I have a single carrier for using behind jeep when Tacoma's being used. Would not do a double as leverage would be crazy.

    Bump.

Has anyone used these on fat heavy bikes? I'm talking GSXR 1000 and KTM 690SMC. Not at the same time of course

I fabricated a bike carrier that a guy used for his Harley. Probably 1000 pounds loaded. It can be done.
