Mounting sliders

i know how to put em on, its not too complex, but if i can get some of these and not need to weld onto my frame, why the hell not. My truck is my DD and will be for some time, so im hopefully not going to be rock crawling to the point where i am going to need full on welded sliders and bolt on wont cut it.

the stock one? I think cbi bumpers/armor are my favorite by far, but fuck they are the most expensive

I checked out your build thread to see your front bumper... what is it?

 

Do the CBI sliders require a body lift? There is not much space between the frame rails and the body.

I'm thinking of doing something like this myself.

You dont need a body lift in order to put them on the truck. I had one small section where the top of the braket touched the bottom of the body ever so slightly (it would squeak a bit when i hit a potholes). I clearenced it with a hammer and punch then sprayed it with paint. I also wonder if the clearence issue has something to do with the fact that that side of my truck had been hit in a parking lot and may have damaged the body mounts/tweaked the floor.

 

its the stock bumper, minus the entire lower plastic valance, with a metal bar (welded?) across the front above the skid plate,

Did you paint or plasti-derp the stock bumper?

Just to let you know bolt on with nothing but self tapping screws wont cut it. However the style of brackets that CBI has developed are more than strong enough. The only weak link is the strenght of the tube i think that you could twist the tubing into a pretzel before the brackets would fail. Hell they may even be stronger than a weld considering they wrap around all the way not just welded to the side and bottom.

Edit: Also its pretty cool that i can remove my sliders in about an hour and a half with needing to grind and paint the frame again.

 

Its bolted on??? Mine had 2 nuts on each side holding it on, so you shouldnt have to cut it off.

 

oh ok yea, thats right..those beams are considered "crush cans" in case of an accidenty but when i installed my bumper i cut those off and welded the new cross member that came with the new bumper over the frame ends in place of the crush cans.

 

oh ya thoes were the ones i was looking at. they are pretty pricey as far as sliders go but they wrap around the frame and look like they bolt together and hold tight pretty well, i guess the only concern would be them actually sliding along the frame, but i believe you said earlier what that was not an issue with them

 

Yea i cut mine right behind that hole and welded it all back up

 

AT the moment they are on sale on the website. Factor in the cost of paying someone to weld them on (if you dont have the capability) and your in the same price range with half the effor and a much higher resale value shall you choose to get out of wheeling.

 

IDK why you guys cut those cans off... Im like 99% sure there is a bolt on the inside of that can that you can take them off with.



In the mounts when i put the sliders on the brackets were a little tight so i just used a jack to lift them on because i was by myself.

 

I damn sure didnt see a bolt...but o well its done now

 

Look inside the can... I just checked my frame rail and there is no can and a nice threaded hole in the middle of the flat frame rail end. Besides if the can is ment to be replaced then it must be able to be removed with ease.
