No problem sir. Yes I agree with you. I must say I bring with me to Colorado nothing but respect and humbleness, I'm just a regular ol dude looking for peace, tranquility, and good humble people who love dirt trails and the magnetic draw of the mountains!! Oh and beer!!

i must say i'm rather disappointed that the beer thing has not caught on in the Bay Area. too many wine snobs i guess. WA and OR had it going on. i hear San Diego is good for this.

this summer i'm planning an overland trip in SW Colorado to check out the scene. hopefully, i'll be moving there right after you. save me a beer!

Personally I think the issue is not where someone is from as much as the fact that they want the new place to be like the old place. If you liked it there, you should have stayed.
When I moved to NC I asked the locals about that. I got great information, and good long time friends.

3 inch lift with Toytec Boss and All Pro UCA's up front. AP expedition leafs with Bilstien 5100 shocks in the back. 255/85/16 Cooper S/T Max tires. All Pro skids, rear bumper and sliders, Hidden winch mount with XRC 8000 winch. Dual Optima batteries with IBS combiner/isolator and solar. CMC. Auto sliding rear window mod, hidden CB, CVJ axles and plenty of other little mods.

I think that if you look at the data you will find that the claims that MgCl being less corrosive than NaCl are true only when dry/crystallized. In high humidity or wet environments (like when the snow is melting) the corrosive properties of MgCl are enhanced. Uncoated metal like your brake rotors are especially susceptible. Like any salt, it also enhances electrolysis which leads to things like aluminum wheels bonding to hubs.
The good news about Colorado is that CDOT does not use chemicals to bond the salt solution to the road or your vehicle. I washes off fairly easily with soap and water. Always best to pressure wash the underside after significant contact.

I guess coating the undercarriage would not hurt. Even though it may not be absolutely necessary l.

    :)

yes! i should have stayed in San Diego! i'm hoping Colorado to be a 70/30 mix of outdoorsy Washingtonians and cool/snobby (depending where in the USA you hail from :)) CA homies. i've lived in 4 places and i rank them like so:

    1) San Diego (Santee, El Cajon, San Diego proper)
    2) Seattle (Bellevue & Seattle)
    3) Claremont, CA hometown :)
    4) NorCal (Mountain View, San Jose)

what can i say, i'm a west coast dude. the funny takeaway from living in these places is all the drivers are different. PNW drivers are horrifically awful. another thing i've noticed is, like Ken in NC may be hitting on, people like to be in the majority group. SoCal, NorCal, and PNW people are not different but they each want to hold on to their view that their hood is superior. nothing wrong with that i guess except when you turn your nose up. too much of that going around. i'm hoping to find open minds somwehere... so i search.

edit: oh yeah, this is a thread about salt

In the middle of my second winter here after moving from South OC. The Mag Chloride is not that bad. You will definitely notice some surface rust here and there that you are not used to, but it's not eating it away like I see people talking about from the East/North East. I just pressure wash the underside a few days after most snows and she stays looking pretty good under there.
Like @kashtyaatsi said, the traffic is not as bad as OC but it won't be long.
To chime in on the other comments about moving to a new place. I moved here not expecting and not wanting it to be like SoCal. I grew up in SD in the 70's when it was more fun outdoors and laid back, so that's more what I was hoping for and would say it is close but better.

PNW people are not horrible drivers.... OREGON drivers are the worst drivers... do not take us WA people as the same as them.
