Black Westin Bull bar, black Westin side steps, 5%window tint all around(until CHP made me take it off the front!!), 2.5" ready lift in the front, 2" block lift in rear, Rollbak Retractable Tonneau cover, Black JDM head/tail lights, HID head/fog lights, black badged all around, 20" UltraSport black wheels on 33" Pirelli tires. Interior---JL Audio Stealthbox holding 2 JL W1V2 10" subs, 2 500W amps to power the subs and the JL C5 door speakers up front.
Once You put on some 20" wheels and 33" tires you can kiss any kind of good gas mileage out the window..im jealous of all your 24MPG trucks!

Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone has experienced a decrease in fuel consumption after replacing their leaking valve cover gaskets? I recently did this on my 5.3l tahoe and replaced the leaking intake manifold gasket as well. I picked up almost an extra 100+ miles per tank after doing so and cleared up some valve tick as well.

Im asking because of it being a possible vacuum leak. I plan on doing it anyway and am just wondering if anyone has any results from doing this.

Way old post I know but just to add my 2 cents if you want to save feul best bet is to get a costom intake(vortex type) along with cat back.Really your not going to save that much more than the v6 especially a 2 wheel drive.V-6 is like night and day when it comes to performance.4 BANGER ARE WEEK ONLY 150 HP compare to 200-240 and still gets good gas.I had a 6cyl 4x4 with a supercharger and still got about 22 hwy if I remember right but also had 300 thousand plus miles(hard miles)and the only maintenence I performed was breaks and fluid changes. Most dependable and best pick up I ever owned better than my 2 titans and the tundra. The things goes every where with ease.:D

vortex intake and throttle body spacers(feul optimizer) work pretty well.I had this on my titan and I could tell the difference. My second titan did not have this and there was a big difference.Use it with a k & N drop in air filter and stock intake case if your off rd.In my opinion as you will half to clean it a lot and also you never know when you need to drive threw a ditch as it helps keep the water out.But my use is mainly to get me out on the beach and there is a big sink hole:)I sure do miss my yota darn prices sky rocketed but by by big trucks gas is a killer these days and there is nothing that beats the tacoma.Best truck I ever owned.

I have about $1000 in efficiency mods, so I would have to drive that pickup 71,429 miles (1000/(.007 x 2)) to pay for all that, if I were getting an additional 2mpg, which I am not....

Well in order for your mods to work you need to tune the the carb or program the feul injection.Any thing that makes your motor breath a little better is going to be better for your vehicle.Yah and new toys to add to your taco is always fun.As toyotas are pretty well built there is really not much you can do to it thats not allready there but then again you half to remember they build these to sell at the lowest cost and profits. On every vehicle I own I replace muffler and filter. You dont need expensive intakes and catbacks.Neet toys but really your not gaining much.(unless your looking for v-8 power then you can buy a supercharger?)But any way a simple K&N drop in airfilter and if need be a better flowing exhaust and remember to program your shift points or if you have the money$$$$$$$Change your gears to match your over size wheels...There is one thing on the market that does work for saving gas.I had a nissan titan,2 of them...One with a vortec intake and throttle body spacer installed by the dealer and my next titan as I had some issues with the first (breaks, leaky seals and so on but you have this with new vehicle models)But any way the next titan did not have this and I can tell you for a fact I did notice a big difference with fuel economy.Went from 22mls free way to 18 with out.

Added a K&N Filter. I had no idea how thick the stock one was until I removed it! I dont know how any air flows through that thing!

K&N filter, syn. additive in motor oil
Hello all, Tojo here from New England. Have a 2004 Xtra cab 4X4 2.7 w/5 speed approx. 100K. Tossed the stock air filter for a K&N, changed the plugs and oil using Castro and added Prolong syn. additive. Have gained about 3 miles to the gallon topping out at 25mpg. Saw slight improvement with air filter change but biggest improvement came with Prolong additive. Motor runs quieter and cooler. Have tried the syn. oils but have found cost wise and overall performance better with additive.

Synthetic oil/lubes used throughout. NGK Iridium Lazer 100K spark plugs. Rear differential breather extension modification. Toyota front skid plate, roof rack, bed mat, chrome exhaust exhaust. Runs like new!
I would like to find out where they are sold locally? $80 online (for 4.0L Tacoma)sounds like a lot of money or miles to put on vehicle for saving .5 to 1 mile to a gallon which is what I read on the site. Is this true. I buy the NAPA filter forr $10-12 w/my discount. Thanks for any advice/help. easygoingary@yahoo.com

I just had this discussion with my mechanic of 35 years. I would never go above the max tire pressure listed on the sidewall. My 17'" General grabber AT2 M & S All terrain tires state max 44PSI. These tires HANDLE AWESOME FROM OFF ROAD to HIGH SPEEDS, NORMAL DRIVING/HANDLING-DON'T HYDROPLANE like original bridstone tires.

THEY HAVE A LOT OF MEAT FOR HAVING 38K MILES ON THEM. I HAVE BEEN RUNNING THEM AT 40LBS FOR 3.5 YEARS. My mechanic recomended a little more 42 PSI in front due to engine weight and stay at 40 PSI in rear unless I'm towing by looking at the tire wear. I trust his judgement! He fixes more cars than anyone I know and he is very knowledgable across the board.
Notice to others: Over inflating your tires would obviously save gas mileage but your life as well as others in the event of a blowout is not worth saving a few dollars. Good luck.

My tires look almost new as well & off road tires typically wear out quicker than regualar tires. I think you're doing great with what you're doing now.
    Good luck.

The mileage gain is negligible. The real advantage is that the drop in filters never need to be replaced.

Thanks for your help. Dealer recomends changing the filter every 12k miles, I could but 8 new air filters for the price of 1 pro dry and don't mind taking the 30 seconds to change the filter & just to make sure everything else looks good in there. I would have to drive the vehicle for another 96K miles without (buying/using) the cleaning kit for the pro dry air filter for it to be comparable to buying a new one, I know there are kits sold ($20) to clean these pro dry filters periodically. That would bring me up to 120K miles just to break even and I don't have to clean an air filter; just replace in 30 seconds.

I guess you answered my question; stay with the $10 quality NAPA air filters (comparable to toyotas at $40). Not to mention I have changed friend's air filters sometimes and find sand, dirt, crud, cob webs and even an extra piece of 3" plastic tubing sitting in there which was obviously thrown in by some retarded mechanic that forgot where he took it from. LOL

After reading this you might decide why change the air filter at all.

    http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/pdfs/...02_26_2009.pdf

Conclusion, even the most clogged air filter will not reduce mpg. Pretty simple, the throttle plate is a greater restriction than the air filter so the air filter doesn't matter.

I bought 3 toyota filters at 30K and the counter guy gave me a discount, $14.95 each. I'm thinking of go 60K on this on the one in now.

Or wait until the intake hose collapses like in the test. A used filter actual filters more junk than a new one.

There's no way that the afe filter keeps your hood from closing properly.
