Driving to work this morning I noticed the multi-information display was black/off. I tried using pushing a few steering wheel buttons to no avail. I pulled over and restarted the pickup and the multi-information display remained off. After about 10 minutes driving, the display randomly turned back on and acted like nothing happened.

    Anyone experience this?

My 2016 had the dash/combo meter replaced under warranty because of trip meter problems (there's a TSB for it somewhere, and also a long thread here on the third gen forums. Probably pinned somewhere)... Maybe related? Take it to the dealer. You're probably still under warranty, right?

edit: if I wasn't clear, that's totally not normal

It happend a second time and I drove to the dealer to show them. They did some testing and couldn’t figure out the issue. So they replaced the combination meter. So hopefully that will solve the odd intermittent issue of the whole display not working.

I know this is an old thread, but I just bought a new 2020 TRD OR premium (special ordered, waited almost 2 months for delivery) picked it up Friday afternoon, Saturday morning when I started it the MID was black. kinda pissed me off, but shutting off the truck and waiting a bit and then restarting it powered up fine. oh well, just a one time glitch, right?? wrong. when I started the truck this afternoon to leave work it duplicated. this truck has less than 200 miles on it and not even a week old. definitely will be returning to the stealership, but I was curious if the OP had any other issues after they replaced the instrument cluster?

Hi there, ugh. Sorry to hear you are having what sound like similar issues! After Toyota replaced it I never had issues again (knock on wood) and I’m 45k miles now. I’d suggest taking a picture of it and take it in to the dealer for repair. My dealer was super helpful.

Also, you will be without your vehicle for multiple days because they lock it down with your current mileage so they can encode the new one (it is encoded with your current mileage before Toyota ships it to the dealer) So make sure they offer you a loaner.

Sorry to revive this again, did you get yours fixed? Did they just replace the unit or did you get any indication of what the root cause was? I had this issue this morning on my new 2020 :(

It didn't go away with just a restart but it did go away after i ran an errand and then came back after it sat for a few minutes. Hasn't happened running other errands today, wondering if there is a bad ground or bad connection somewhere.

They replaced the instrument cluster with a new unit. Had to look at the odometer via the app just to tell them what the mileage was . It was 705, when the new one came in it took me a few days to get in for the install. My mileage went from 1,119 back to 705 (already knew it would ) haven't had any issues since. The service manager acted like it was something new and odd, the mechanics, however, had seen it regularly. They already knew they weren't going to keep my truck so a loaner wasn't even discussed

I just had the same issue. Got in my 2020 SR5, started it up and the MFD looked just like yours. It stayed like that the 45 minute drive in to work, and only returned to normal after I shut the truck down and tried restarting it a couple of minutes later.

It's working fine as of now, but having that issue on a truck with 15K miles is disturbing.

Sorry man, I know it is super frustrating. Mine has not happened again so I haven't done anything about it or reached to the dealership yet. I figure if it happens again I'll bring it in. If you learn anything be sure to post it here. I'll do the same.

Mine has worked flawless since being replaced at 700 miles. 3,267 miles on it now. I do have a good relationship with the shop manager and a friend who is a service writer at the dealership so my replacement was simple and no drama at all. From what I've read other service centers aren't as cordial.

Glad I found this thread. I just left the gym and I see this screen. My 2020 SR5 has less than 4,000 miles. Just got home and powered down. Hoping this will fix itself after I eat dinner.

Take it to the dealership as soon as possible. I wouldn't want a simple "power reset" for the cluster issue to be fixed for such a brand new truck.

Weird. Maybe a sensor had a hiccup and the software crashed. Please let us know if its resolved

Wanted to update for those that were curious. Hasn’t happened again so I’m suspecting this was some kind of a one time glitch.

Just got the center display fuzz like your pic. Left it for 30 min. and restarted and all was back to normal. Hoping it’s a one time thing. Has yours continued to work correctly?
