    Hello TW,
I just joined this forum and expecting delivery of my 2017 TRD Pro A/T in early Feb 2017. After reading some threads, I have a mental list of some things I need to do immediately and have some questions. Additionally, I wanted to know if I'm missing anything or if the issue no longer needs to be addressed (I noticed some of the threads started over a year ago and couldn't figure out if Toyota has fixed it). I understand I could probably get all my answers if I review all the related threads, so I'll apologize ahead of time if I'm not following proper forum etiquette.

What I'm hoping for is a simple list of things I need to do, I figure it should be a short list considering it's a Tacoma, right?

Oh, I should mention I'm "trying" to keep the vehicle more or less stock, so the below list is my simple understanding of things that should be done to ensure the vehicle performs as designed.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

    1. Check the automatic transmission fluid - I plan on just doing this myself by getting the fluid to the correct temp, then filling it to the correct level. I remember reading deep in the main related thread regarding this issue, that this seemed to be the easiest way to deal with this issue, is that right?

    2. Purge and fill the Zerks at the u-joints.

    3. TSB-whatever to fix the automatic transmission "trying to search for gears" issue. I'm assuming TSB stands for Transmission Service Bulletin? Do I have to first see if my vehicle displays such behavior then take it back in to the dealership to get the ecu flashed? Or can I just request it get flashed before I pick it up? Or, are newer vehicles no longer experiencing this problem? Additionally, I've read somewhere that the vehicle learns how you drive for the first number of X miles, if this is the case, do I need to wait until this is over before seeing if my vehicle has this problem? How does driving it with the ETC mode "on" effect all of the above. Lastly, assuming I do need the TSB, what number is it? If you know it off the top of your head, please share. I'm that lazy ...

    Thanks again

    1. I had the dealer do this and provide a written report before I accepted my new truck. It's part of the pre-delivery service so they should be doing it anyway. Feel free to check yourself, but it's really their job.

    2. As above, I asked them to do this and provide a report.

    3. It's Technical Service Bulletin (TSB). They're released when a problem is identified across a product line but a recall isn't warranted. I simply asked them to flash the ECU to the latest version and provide a written report, which stated that my 2017 already had all updates installed.

ETC mode won't hurt anything. It's only there to provide better MPG numbers on the EPA test.

Check all the fluids and grease points. A lot of complaints about that lately.
