    Breakerboy,
My truck failed PA state safety inspection in August for 2 rust holes. Everything else was good, the holes failed it. Mine was nowhere near as bad as your frame. My frame had a golfball sized hole at the driver side cat and metal lifting away to reveal a similar hole at the passenger side cat.

I had called Toyota corporate a few months prior, after the campaign started. I explained that I was aware of the campaign, and asked when it would be active in PA, because I expected it to fail state inspection. Corporate assigned me a case number.

I still had not received an answer from Corporate, so I had the truck inspected at the Toyota dealer. It failed, and the dealer said they would need to weld plates on so they could pass it. Before moving ahead with the plates, I contacted Corporate to find out if this would make my frame ineligible for the campaign. Per Corporate, my frame would still be eligible because the plates were recommended by the Toyota dealer, as opposed to a non-Toyota shop. And Corporate gave me a service credit - I paid the dealer for the plates/welding and then got reimbursed by Toyota.

A couple things - what month was your truck due for inspection? I've always heard the rule of thumb is 1 month, meaning if your truck is due for inspection by end of October, then most police won't pull you over for a bad inspection sticker until end of November.

I knew nothing about service campaign till truck failed I got home called Toyota was told no recall per my vin I got pissed started looking for a solution before I broke news to wife and I stubble across the service campaign on here... I called Toyota back asked about it said my vin dont qualify for repair would not say why other than they are targeting specific Vinson from frame manufacturers ... My dealer said nothing about plating said seriously under safe and said they suggest I dont drive it home 15 miles that I should have it towed. .. I said he'll no I'm driving they said at own risk I was advised not 2

I was told the exact same story by the first 2 CS reps. The third rep said she was aware of the campaign & that I had to wait till if was active in NY. New case number, ect

Your frame looks worse than mine. I don't know that plates would work in your case.

Theirs a clock spring recall? What years? For my truck to go straight I have to hold the wheel at a 45 degree angle even though the alignment is fine.

I strongly disagree your alignment is 'fine'.

BTW, that has nothing to do with the clock spring.

He obviously is not trying to help me... I stated I am 2nd owner truck bought at Hanover Toyota new never left pa he stated earlier multiple times if I was original owner he said problem would be fixed period. .. that's not at all true dont matter if I own the truck for 7 months 4 years a recall when there is one will reply to me... its a safety issue... if time of ownership was issue Toyota cooperation would say so they fixed all other recall for me no question asked... check his prior posts

    +1

Toyota is not, to the best of my knowledge and research, under regulatory pressure to address or provide relief for this issue. I have been searching for more information around their motivation since last week when they called me about my 2005 Tacoma's frame. If anyone has additional info, please share?

A note to the OP -

I know you are frustrated. You have good reason to be. The key here - and I absolutely cannot stress this enough - is to set aside your frustrations and work the issue with the help of all members of this group. You came here looking for help, and you came to the right place. Help the members of this forum help you. If you do, they will. You may not get overnight results, but remember: this is a marathon, not a sprint. The SC didn't materialize overnight. It was years in the making.

I am the second owner of my 2005 Tacoma. The first owner bought it from a dealer in MD. I bought it in 2011 and brought it back to CT. My truck didn't show up on the SC list for years, and then I got a call from Toyota last week out of the blue. Today (about 10 hours ago), Toyota inspected it and authorized a replacement frame.

You may not be able to get this resolved quickly, but you can start laying the groundwork now. The suggestion about taking the truck to a Toyota dealer to see if they can weld up the frame for you seems like a good first step - better than instantly lawyering up, IMHO. The dealer may not be able to do anything if your frame is too badly deteriorated, but at least then it will be documented and you will know exactly where you stand.

    Good luck.

    -cec
