I was told by Toyota cooperation that the campaign is vin specific.. I asked why and was told certain vin had frames manufactured by certain companies that were proven to be defective .. im assuming our frames were not manufatured by the "problem" manufacturer .. My thinking is this Untill Toyota goes afterand sues and finds ccompany at fault so they get reinbursment they wont take care of public ..

The main company producing our frames has gone out of business so they could avoid paying for the issues.

well in that case, that's BS. defiantly go the corporate route and make alot of noise. there were people getting frames replaced for free before they officialy started this limited service campaign. clearly, yours should be included. best of luck

I've personally seen stacks of frames piles up outside of a PA dealership. They are replacing them.

    That's fucked up.

If your rust is looking bad I would consider selling before anything gets out of hand.

I too have seen many frames at Bobby Rahal Toyota in Mechanicsburg Pa. If you drive around back they have frames sitting out there. There's also tundras and tacomas sitting out back dismantled.

Just go home from visiting a collision repair shop got a estimate for a frame patch cost would be 850.00 to cut the affected welded section out fabricate a new plate and weld back in... or just plate over affected section with plate for 500.00 .. The man was surprised of all the surface rot but did say the frame seems solid elsewhere as he lightly hammered a punch along frame rust and scale was racing down on him ... He also stated Pa state inspection requires only visual inspection of frame as rust coated as my frame is it was possible that the crack wasn't visible at the time of purchase that frames usually rot

from inside out.. made me feel slightly better because I swear that split was not visible beforehand

The only catch here is if I have a non Toyota repair shop complete repair I am screwing myself for any future action from Toyota cooperation. . Also the shop is a State Pa inspection station and after repaired it will pass ..

So what do I do keep fighting Toyota cooperation while truck sits not road safe
Find a Toyota dealer willing and capable of doing repair so I don't mess up future recall or service campaign

Take legal action against Toyota cooperation using the pro bono service provided by a fellow member on here.. Which by the way I'm lost for words and thankful for such a generous offer..

It just kills me to let this go with Toyota cooperation a trucks service life should extend longer than 8 years They obviously still have a major problem with frames

GM just did the same thing... they "restructured" so all the people who have died in their cars due to the ignition issues have little recourse (their family's).

I would not modify anything until you go through the proper steps with Toyota.

Would hate to see you modify the frame and the next day they recall your vin then deny a new frame due to modification.

Not to get off subject, but i just read last night the NHTSA is pushing GM to recall certain trucks for corroded brake lines. GM says they won't do it.

I agree I would try to do everything possible with Toyota before welding plates on the frame.

I hope you're not suggesting that this "Beerline123" guy sell his rusty framed truck to another private buyer...and if you are suggesting he dump his potential problem vehicle on someone else...wow...

My Ford Explorers rear brake lines rusted out last year... it's 18 years old.

In this day and age I believe it's the owners responsibility to insure their truck is properly maintained. Personal culpability is something as time goes on seems to get taken out of the equation by many. No ones frame rusted out overnight and everyone with the web could of searched and found out the last model Tacoma had very serious rust issues before buying a 05+ and that 05+ Tacomas were rusting out a few years ago.

When I was growing up riding quads I specifically remember Toyota trucks as being totally rusted out light truck miracles that could beat up on just about anything that was in the trails. I don't remember any of them having solid body panels without tons of cancer or holes.

We all purchased them irregardless of the potential issues and now we need to man up to the results of our actions. I think we are all lucky they are even replacing any frames. They could say FU...your corrosion warranty is up and walk away but they aren't. Just be patient and follow the procedures set forth. Eventually if everyone makes claims they will fold and help everyone. Vin numbers will be added just like states and regions.

What do you think happened to OP?

Calm down there buddy. I guess I can spell it out a little more for you. When selling a vehicle, you can also disclaim all problems with a vehicle. I know, it's amazing.

Definitely lucky toyota is doing something about the frames.

Same thing happened to my buddies explorer. His is a 96. I guess that would make it about the same age as yours. He was driving and went to hit the brakes hard and they went to the floor. The rear line blew a hole out, or rusted I should say.

I am also proud to be a part of a forum where members help each other this much. Matt, this was very kind of you and I hope I never need your services, but since you are also in San Diego, I am glad to know you are there!

I don't just want to walk away from the situation with my tail between my legs... But man alive Toyota cooperation got me in a tough spot ... No other vehicle to drive unless I put money out to rent one.. Pa archery season starts tomorrow and no truck... I guess I can bite the bullet and exhaust all efforts trying to get Toyota cooperation to make good for it.. I am not the original owner so I don't know if frame was maintained prior to my ownership but my wife drives a 2005 Toyota Rav 4 that no special attention other than general maintained and frame looks great after 250K still running strong

I do agree.. We as Tacoma owner can deny it all we want but we kind of knew what we were getting into when purchasing one.. I just thought they would have it figured out by now..

I think XXXX made the point, but it's true regardless. When I bought my 1st tacoma I assumed the frame issue had been resolved. Then after joining this forum I found out it was still a problem. I've washed that trucks frame and my current trucks frame when I can in the winter. It's hard to keep up on it though when it's so freaking cold out.

You'd think they would have done a better job with protecting the frame.

Yes it is pitiful ... A frame should last way longer than that
