wow...i had my truck 8 days, i had 500 miles on it, and i left it at a park and ride to go snowboarding yesterday, i left ay 5:45 in the morning, and i got back around 4:00 in the afternoon, and all i see in my parking space is broken glass....so if any of you in the southern cali area see an 07 exteneded cab sr5 prerunner (indigo ink) with toyota carlsbad plates and a broken window, send them my wishes. its probably parted out in mexico right now....but i figured id give it a shot.:D

My regards. I think I felt my stomach sink just hearing you say that. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

BTW - did you have the upgraded security system? I ask because I do. I need to know if I should take extra precautions.

Damn... that really really really sucks.

Isn't the ignition kill system a standard feature? I wonder how much work it takes to get around it....? I also got the alarm system added like 007Tacoma. But I bet these trucks are pretty hot down here in SoCal.

My heart skipped as a I read that! That sucks! 8 days and it is gone! I can't beleive that!!

I'll keep my eyes out for your Tacoma... but it is unlikely that the truck would work its way out to Missouri...

i did not have the upgraded security system, but i did have the standard engine emobilization key, so that tells me that it was a professional thief with the right equipment, or there is just a way to bypass the key. either way, the truck is probably in tj right now in a bunch of tiny pieces.

i think those of you with the security system are pretty safe, depending on where you park....my truck was parked right by a busy intersection, so if i had an alarm blaring, im sure he would not have taken it.

That's the unfortunate truth: pros can snatch any car. I would imagine it takes some doing to overcome the transponder though? There's a State Farm article that says the device to reprogram the transponder costs $10,000 and can take up to 30-40 minutes? Unless they smashed the glass, popped the car into neutral, and quickly towed it off?

I got the alarm system to prevent teenage punks from breaking in.... My last car in LA had the windows smashed twice and the car rummaged through (I hope you enjoyed the $4 in change, the pack of old gum, and the lousy burned CD's).

Sorry to hear it. Sounds like you had just about the same truck as me. I think I'll be putting in an alarm now just in case.

Just did some google, there's a website that tells you how to bypass the immob. - once you get the hang of it, it would take a pro about 20 seconds to hotwire the car.

So if it's out there on the internet and I can find it in 5 minutes.... Another good reason to fully insure you car.

    Dude,

I'm so sorry to hear that...I can only imagine how you must feel. The dealer sold me on the ignition disable device (identity) when he showed me stats stating the taco was something like the #2 most stolen vehicle in CA. Don't know if it'd really deter anyone but kids though.

Best of luck in your insurance dealings.

I looked at this system, it tracks and locates the vehicle. At that point, let the police deal with it rather than risk bodily harm to yourself. the price is less than what it would cost for an alarm system that no one really pays attention to when it does go off.

It will track, and locate the vehicle anywhere, and then let the police deal with it from that point in recovering it.
