    Interesting. I've been kinda wondering how to do it.
    I've got my old C-29 from my truckin' days just waiting to be put in my new Taco. I'm a little worried about doing this style mount, as the poor thing's been poked and pried at so many times I'm not sure if it can take another solder job.
    If I did this, I would also have to find some way to mount my kicker (or remote/parallel mount the controls) and my receive amp. Hmmmm.......

    As for where to put the mic: If you have the skinny-cord RK56 (very long, skinny cord), you could stretch it some behind the dash until it comes out on the left side, near the door. This is what I did in my Freightliner -- I swear I was the only driver with a left-mount mic and nothing hanging down in front of the windshield. (That cord will stretch to China: In my FL, the distance from the mic plug to where it came out was about five feet. And I still had enough coiled cord left over to be talking on it while standing in front of the truck).

    Yeah, this is definitely a good solution for the larger radios. Seems to be working well and havent had any issues yet with it! everyone that I have spoke with out on the road says it sounds great too!

    Thank you very much for the input, I will look into the RK56 cord and possible mount the mic on the left. I like the idea!

    RK56 is short for Road King 56. It's the creme de la creme of cb mics. It comes with two cord options, the fat short cord, which is the most common, and the long skinny cord, which is rare and the one I have. One could always make hir own cord, if one really wanted to get all custom.

    Cut and stripped each wire from the radio and soldered them to the cat-5. No splices at all..

    Definitely am going to try to find the skinny cord for my radio. I don't think I will be making my cord though, did enough wiring just getting this thing back together haha

    I actually separated the pairs so I had 8 wires in one wrap of cat-5. Had a scrap paper next to me and just started matching em up!

    If you go look under the first post, I got the idea from DB. He used cat-5 and it worked out. So I used the same plus I have about 500' chillin in my garage from previous construction jobs.

    In all honest cat-6 may work better just because of the larger gauge, but I don't think youll see a major difference. The wires inside my radio were probably closer to 22AWG.

    Only four wires to solder. Two ends = eight total solder points. Way easier than what you've already done!
