Thanks for the input guys, my dad measured the missing cat was approximately 34 inches, does that sound about right? I also went on ebay and couple other sites included RockAuto(all their cats are not CA legal..)...to check on the after market cats..I guess it's a no go then since they are not durable at all.

Any idea how much is the cat from the dealership? I search the forum a little and some ppl say 1k-2k? This is gonna blow for my old man =/

Hm I don't think this diagram has the same layout as my dad's truck, because I still see a cat(resonator) hanging there, but the missing piece is about 34 inches long.

Im assuming this truck is a 2.4 lt? I dont rember a front resonator on my old 2.7 ltr. When i cut the cat out of that (before i sold it back to toyota:D) There was only one Cat like the diagram that i posted. It appears yours has 2 chambers i dont think anyone is dumb enough to steal a straight pipe lol. As for stock replacement the cheapest place i know of is from toyotapartssales.
If you know someone whom works for toyota they get a hell of a discount just saying.

My uncle works at a Toyota dealership and I get parts for cheap. But all of the guys in the parts dept know my truck so I doubt I could get an item like that for a 2004 4 cyl

Yeah if you needed an air filter or maybe a shock. But I think a $1k (guessing) cat would be different

Here's one I had a shop fabricate. It attaches to pre-existing threaded holes in the frame and a cross member...no drilling required.

I wonder what would happen if you sleeved the pipe with DOM and made a spider web over the cat? You aint getting through that with a sawzall any time soon.

It ended up being around $300....figured it would be cheaper to have it protected than having to replace the cats if they were ever stolen. I park in some pretty remote spots while fishing and didn't want to come back to discover some ass wipes had a party under the truck. I had additional material welded behind the cats to block a saw and access to the bolts, and had rebar welded on top of the plate in various locations to either slow down a saw or break the blade. I'll take a few pictures this week with the plate removed and add it to this thread. The plate ain't pretty but it works. I figure the scum bags will probably just take one look under the truck and go elsewhere....either that or it will piss em off so bad they'll cut every fricken wire they can find just for the hell of it!

yeah that's what i'm always afraid of...I want to mountain bike but afraid if i park my truck some assholes are gonna know i'm biking and crawl under and go to town with a sawzall. a skid plate like that definitely must give peace of mind.

Legaly you cannot buy a used cat so the scrap yards sell them to companys that melt them down.

I talked to my mechanic about getting some kind of protection for the cat. We discussed the cat clamp and welding something over it. But he made a pretty good point.

He said that if I do any of that, all they are going to do is cut further away down the line on both sides. And it would cost even more to replace.

His suggestion was to talk to my insurance guy and see if there is anything that we can do to insure just that part as an add on to the policy and have a lower deductible rather than call it as a regular theft item.

Yeah, the cat is still there. So unless there were two, then all the person stole was the "intermediate" pipe i believe... could it just be a prank?

Edit: Ok, i think there are two cats...

The main purpose of having a cat protection device fabbed up is to make it impossible for them to be removed from below, front, and back. The theifs can cut all day long farther up or down the pipes but it won't make much sense if they can't get the cats out.

I was wondering, if I report this to the police will it show up in the car report later on?
