I've wasted too much time and paper towels cleaning up dirty oil that's splashed out of the drain pan. I don't know what it is about this truck but oil flows out with more velocity than anything else I've worked on. Even with the fill cap sealed. Hot or cold.

Although pricey for what it is, I got one of these no splatter pads and it worked! The only drops of oil I had to wipe up were because I was filling up a small sample container for Blackstone. It was satisfying watching oil hit the pad and disappear. Another benefit was being able to toss the drain plug carelessly on the pad and not worry about it finding its way to the small opening of my drain pan causing things to overflow.

There are cheaper options out there but this one fit my style of drain pan perfectly.

It looks like a cheap home AC or heater air filter. Get one at Home Depot and trim to fit.

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.

Then there is the issue of just how to store it between uses?

Let it sit in place (or hang it to drip) for 24 hours?

Put it in a plastic bag and stow it with the drain pan.

    I'm gonna get one!

And I thought those big "catch all oil drain pans" were the cat's meow!

Fumoto valve. When changing oil attach a hose to the nipple and drain stright into an empty jug. Never a drop of oil on the garage floor to clean up, no oil soaked 20" giant filters laying around or drain pans etc.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Last couple of changes I started raising the front a bit and just using a 10qt bucket. But those splash inserts are also something I've looked at, good tip. Nobody likes the hot brown shower.

I leave my drain pan in the very corner of my garage with the dirty funnel that's used to pour old oil into containers for recycling. In another clear plastic bin I have my funnels that I use for pouring clean oils and fluids into engines, transmissions, transfer cases, etc.

I kept going back and forth about one and know it probably doesn't matter but my OCD didn't like the fact that it does leave approximately a cup of old oil in the drain pan. Like I said, 1 cup really isn't significant considering how much old oil still remains in the engine's passages.

In before this thread turns into a Fumoto valve circle jerk.

Like from the stem sitting above the bottom of the pan?
Out of curiosity, has anyone measured that?

Yes, I can't remember where I read it but somebody had one installed and measured the remaining amount afterwards by removing the valve.

I’ll avoid the jerk fest, but happy for the OP in finding anything to make changing oil less difficult.

I’ve done 16 changes now and still think it’s more of a hassle than any other vehicle I’ve owned.
