I finally made the purchase of my first Tacoma. I ended up getting a 2018 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 with premium technology package and long bed in cement (Not a common truck).

So far I am loving the truck and I am new to the off road world. I am though having some post purchase regret as I am wishing I got the Off Road.

What I am reading is that I could put some front and rear ARB lockers on them and with 4x4 I can go anywhere. I would also add some rock sliders and 33 or 35 inch tires but not sure.

What are your thoughts on making this great for off roading in the CA desert and Sierra mountains?

I also am noticing a few things I wish were better.
    • The usb charger does not charge my Galaxy Note 8 (turns out it is a media port and not a charging port)
    • I expected the premium package to have electric seats (not a big deal but wish I could adjust height)
    • The Entune stereo head unit is awful for being premium. Off roading in Calico and Google Maps way more detail than the navi. (Where is Android Auto) [After adding the Entune app I have the option for destinations which seems to leverage my Google Maps and found what I was not able to before.]
    • The Entune voice activation never works (recent update seems to have fixed this issue)
    • Gas cap does not lock
    • No alarm system (Tired of my car being broken into and would like some deterrent) (Going to add this for $200 from Toyota unless you have other options)
    • Headlights do not seem very bright at night (Looking into HID's but wondering about LED's)
Let me know your thoughts or tips and tricks.

Welcome to TW! Absolutely go for the ARB lockers. Adding 33s is relatively easy but 35's is going to require a ton of cutting and regearing.

The USB port isn't a charger. It's a media port.

That makes a lot more sense and diffuses my issue with it.

Thanks for the info. I will have to get the ARB's added at some point. I also found some threads around being able to add 33s on the stock setup. Would there be any reason to change the shocks?
