I just checked my whole frame over with a fine-toothed comb, and this is the sum total of the rust holes. It's not even big enough to put my finger through. Think I should take it in?

Well, on the bright side, looks like I'll be getting that mid-90s LS400 or SC400 sooner than I thought!

Gen 1 and gen 2 frames are from different vendors, so there's no comparison.

Don't be so sure. Toyota goes by VIN number when it comes to frame rot. My '01 is not even part of the free frame inspection according to Toyota HQ. My dealer did it anyway and said it was fine (of course). Unless your VIN is listed, they won't do squat and will call it "normal rust". According to Toyota, only a "small number of 01-04" Tacomas have the frame rust issue. Good luck.

This company is incapable of making corrosion resistant products. This rust issue has been going on for DECADES. Anyone living in the snow belt should not buy a Toyota product. Just my opinion.

    mbtech,

Take it in to your dealer and ask for the "Frame" inspection...

Most of us have had good luck with how Toyota has treated us and I can ad one more to the list.....Purchased a few "Parts" for my '02 today from a young man that had Toyota "Buy back" his '99 Tacoma...( He now owns a new Tundra)..He was kind enough to strip some of the "parts" off before seeing it off to the "Crusher";)..

jlvhrse, They have worked through the "frame" issues, plus Toyota is one of a few that will DO ANYTHING about "Warranty" work....but then again ,I've only owned them for the past 28+ years;):cool:..

I would say I live in the snow belt and my taco has 154,000 miles on it and I don't have a spec of rust on the truck.

Friend of mine has an 04' crew cab and his has its share. He justed POR 'ed the frame to get a hold of it.

    Body panels are fine.

It's the frame rail under the passenger door, not a crossmember.
