Hi all, I am new to the forums and, new to the world of Tacos. I just (Monday) bought my 2010 PreRunner SR5 DC, V6 Automatic.

I read, in a recent post, about the 2010 Tacoma having the same engine as the FJ. Another post, regarding gasoline octane levels, had me digging in my manual to make sure the dealer didn't tell me wrong. My manual says I have a 1GR-FE engine however under the hood is a different story. The truck actually has the VVTI, which is confirmed on the Toyota website when I checked the specs for my Taco (pic attached).

My question is, should I try to find a manual for this engine? I am concerned that oil recommendation, fuel recommendations, and other maintanace issues may not be properly addressed in my owners manual.

Can anyone set me straight? I am very new to both Toyota and to the Tacoma. Thanks!

VVTI = Variable Valve Timing w/ intelligence.

1GR-FE is the 4.0L V6 that toyota currently makes.

There should be a plate under your hood that has be engine designation as well. Take a look for that.

Thanks, that was something I found in another thread. My real concern is just making sure I don't use the wrong fluids. Sounds like I am confusing Toyota terms, and that I have no idea what I am talking about

Ha! God I hope I'm not that bad. While this is not the best second topic, I'm sure (first being an intro in new memebers), I have always owned Honda/Acura. But, I will be the first to admit I am not well versed in the automotive world. This Taco of mine, however, is making me wish I was...

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
It happens they put Toyota Corolla engine by mistake because both assembly lines are next to each other. If you go to dealer they will replace it for you
