Congrats on the new piece, and like everyone else said, welcome to a whole new world of high quality pictures.

One word of advice: having an SLR camera makes up a very small portion of the process in taking good pics. Read up on the settings on how they affect your shots. ISO, Shutter Speed , Aperture, Lighting, Metering, White Balance, Camera Shake, etc.

^ thx!! actually, i was messing with the aperture and shutter speed with those dark shots. The dark shots were actually taken at 10:00 PM with one light on by the door of my house

Yea they still look good. Just think of what you want to picture to look like and where to stand to produce that affect. If you wanted to show the detail of your truck you couldve stood on the other side as the light wouldve shown detail. If you wanted to produce your truck in the shadows, looking a little mean, you did well. Either way the shot looks good.

[Hopefully] As time progresses, and as your experience and knowledge grows, youll love the camera even more. Ive used them for the last 6 yrs and will never go back. Enoy, and post some xGames pics tomorrow!

I have a Nikon D40x and I love it. You might want to buy some books on lighting and shot composition. I bought a few and they really help. I still suck at photography, though!

Do me a favor. Shoot something on the tripod at 18mm then zoom in to 200mm. same shot. I want to see how much zoom it actually has. All settings stay the same just zoom all the way in.

Im debating on getting that lens. Either that one, the 70-300, or keep my 18-55 kit lens and get the 55-200. I have the D5000. Need more zoom. I just want to see exactly how much a 200mm will get me...

two things I'd recommend, get a 50mm f/1.8 it'll give you the blurry background that people love, and it's only about $100.
second thing, try to take your photos from a crouched position, or something other than just standing, it helps make your photo look like a photo rather than a pic.

overall your doing great! keep it up

Those are some amazing pictures! I have been wanting to get into photography but I have no idea on what setup. This looks like it could become an option.
