I think there are 3 main kinds of truck people. The two ends of the pedulum are the offroaders and the guys that are in it for the looks. the middle ground are the guys who use a truck as a truck and seem to be a combination of form and function. They all meet up right here on TW. The offroaders do things for function and practicality and will rarely understand the mindset of the guys that are doing it for the looks. The guys that are in it for the looks will usually be emulating the offroad guys but doing it with style (yes, that's debatable sometimes). Big lifts, big tires, lights all over, tires rubbing at every driveway entrance, no suspension travel, etc and never seen anything beyond a parking curb for articulation but you know what? It works for their needs and goals. 3 inch hockey puck lifts are retarded on an offroad vehicle but by the same token so are $5,000 coilovers with resis and uniball UCAs with Allpro springs and lockers on a truck that will never go offroad or carry anything besides a few bros and a cooler full of hard drinks to the beach but rarely does anyone call them out for having an overbuilt suspension for their needs. Same height of lift but way different price and use. It seems that as a general rule of thumb that the more a person spends on their suspension then the more elitist they feel they need to be in giving suspension "advice" to noobs. "It's a $40K truck, don't use cheap hockey pucks on it" is what I keep reading but logistically, if a truck is only going to be driven on the street and never see real off road situations then why not use them? It saves a bit of money to use for other things like someone else said. Would a $3,000 coilover set up with Dakars or AAls in the back be any better? Possibly. Better ride with the coilovers and debatable on the rear since it'll be stiffer with an unloaded bed. Waste of money in that scenario by some people's standard. I have spacers on my truck now and the ride is exactly the same as stock when I had the stock tires on it. I have a Fox 2.5 setup with shackle flip kit for the back to put on when I need to upgrade but for the time being I'm happy with the spacers cause it fits my needs. Spacers have their place in the truck market just as much as the high end LT setups do, it's just a matter of using the right setup for the right application. I get what the point of your post is but it just boils down to everyone having a different use and goal for their vehicle.

how about the fact that its not a real lift, its just moving the suspension around. A real lift implies a larger spring with more travel to ABSORB BUMPS, not create them with harsh metal on metal contact. The oem springs come with LOTS of vibration dampeners to make the ride better, replacing them with a hockey puck gets rid of all that. Its not a functional lift, because if you try to offroad with it it will be worse than oem as far as ride quality

No, not really.

If you're collapsing the coil, maybe... if you're adding preload to the coil... not necassarily. If you lengthen the whole assy, still not necessarily.

It's still a real lift. But dont let that stop you from being condescending to those with spacer lifts!

I'll just drop this again, I had 885s on my Tacoma before I sold it and 3 linked my FJ80.

Not trying to hurt anybody's feelings or anything... All I'm saying is I didn't spend what I spent on the parts on my truck to be put in the same category as a stock truck riding on hockey pucks. If you three linked your FJ80 then you know what I'm talking about too.
