I never kept track of mileage on my 05 Silverado but I think I got upper teens to 20 but it was 2wd.
02 Tahoe was slightly lifted, +1 tires, ferkin heavy ass drawers I built in the back filled with stuff and I got 18mpg in the city and about that CRUISING on the highway at speeds the Taco could only dream of. 18mpg in the city once I got out here as well. And power and torque were not an issue.

The main reason for the change up isnt purely to get better gas mileage. Its because I need a full size for work, so I'm not going to keep this expensive Tacoma as a toy while having another truck for work... and I dont want to deal with trying to make a single rig work for both again which is how I ended up in the Taco.

And I know I wont gain a ton of MPG... its just something I dont want to decrease on the next rig since I just drove 20k miles getting a maximum of 15mpg average.

3rd gen 4runners are great but you wont see much improvement over the tacoma because the lower cost of the vehicle. The top vehicles I considered were an element and transit, both are cheap with enough space to sleep inside the vehicle, decent fuel economy. Just have to figure out how serious of a vehicle you need and how much space you can live with

Yeah but no ground clearance. You suspension options suck basically as well. Unless you get a long travel kit then bye bye fitting down anything that isn't a maintained dirt road.

And im willing to bet that even a Chevy with a v8 would not get much better than 15mpg average as load up as you are now.

    It's a v8. And you've got a super heavy rig.

If I were going to try to mess with a single vehicle for both uses... It would be a possibility. But then again I could just do the same with a cheaper Silverado and gain my MPG as well.

    I'm confused...

So you are going to try and make your work truck the explore truck too?? Or not...

Stock clearance on Taco is 9.1", Tahoe is 8.4". I know I am supposed to have a 2-3" lift, but I doubt I currently have 11-12" of ground clearance since it looks like stock height. And yes, the suspension options suck, but that'll keep me from going down that rabbit hole...which sometimes I need the outside influence.

No no..I posted it like MPG was my main reason for selling this and going to something else, which it isnt.

I want something reliable and at least gets 15mpg for the next off road rig.
The work truck I'll pick up when I start the new business when I get back.

A lifted Volvo has like 10"

I don't think you're taking this serious enough.

5 cylinder turbo, 30mpg, tons of room. EAF

:boink: And then you can support my Scandinavian brethren.

    Ah okay.

Well. Now when you say 15mpg..do you mean on the highway or offroad. Cause you'll never get that offroad obviously. I get 17 and up to 20mpg with my double cab even fully loaded for camping..

I know it'll be apples and oranges compared to kings. But, its a tradeoff I'm willing to make for the time being. More comfort for bombing out to Utah to do easier trails for a chill weekend without worrying about getting 12mpg because I turned on cruise control thinking it would help like every other vehicle I've had. :D

    Picture wouldn't copy.

Look at the EAF awning and the Kbro2s bro.

edit: can't figure out why the hell I can't copy the link...

edit again: just search XC70 overland. There's actually some pretty cool builds if you don't need to do technical wheeling.

    Highway/city.

I got the most I've ever logged in this truck on this trip, it was mostly downhill so I was able to leave it in gear and coast downhill a ton. I got a little over 17.5mpg!!!! but its typically 15mpg. I drive pretty slow, never accelerate fast, but no matter what, its 15mpg. I think I got 18 a few tanks before I added roof rack, lift and tires.
