Shot you a PM. I posted in the BS tread looking for a tiler and didn't have any luck. Ended up using a handyman that my neighbor used. Had him do my bathroom.

Reading up and it seems like I really should just remove the old concrete base completely. It doesn't look like they used any liner between the existing concrete floor, and the concrete shower base they poured. Just worried about smashing away at it since it only appears to be 2" think concrete shower base. Don't want to damage the main concrete floor. But I suppose that would be easily repaired.

I'm sure you've found someone to do the work for ya, but that last part would immediately turn a lot of people away.

    1. Mainly due to liability, if they're bonded and licensed

    2. No one in any trade wants someone unrelated to the job to be around the job site

    3. Would rather complete the job themselves for the most professional looking outcome

I'd do what I could within my limits, then hire out when needed and let it be done.

As a welder/fabricator I wouldn't want someone tacking parts up for me to weld thinking they'd save themselves money for time/labor or anything else.

Completely understandable, and by no means is that a deal breaker. It's just a would be nice sort of thing. I just like to learn what's going on. I updated the wording.

Circling back to this project, I've made some progress. Got the rest of the material and tile removed from walls and around window. Hung most of the Hardie board, and mocked up the shower tower. Gonna finish plumbing today.

Bought waterproof membrane to line over the Hardie board.

Since the base is not a standard size, I'm just gonna a do the tile over tile method for it. Still haven't decided if I'll do traditional tile, or just tile board that I can cut to fit for the walls.

got most of the waterproof membrane hung up before I ran out and had to buy more. Also ordered the Kerdi shower pan that I can easily cut to size, along with their boarder board. Haven't committed yet, but pretty sure I'll end up getting the PVC Shower Wall tile boards that I can also cut to fit. And then probably real tile for the pan

Finally getting around to the shower floor. Settled for this pattern of marble tile from Lowes. Need to rent a marble tile cutter to finish the sides. Then lay it down permanently

Bought a 7" diamond blade for my mitre saw instead. Worked great. Gonna set the marble tiles permanently tomorrow

It's getting there. Far from perfect, but better than it was before by far. Still have a bit of finishing to do

Im interested to see if this holds up in the long run. Looks like 1/4” Hardie was used on the walls which seems thin, although that large tile should help strengthen the walls. Some of the Kerdi membrane looks to be loose as well. Im wondering how water tight that will be long term. Not bad for a DIY, what are youre thoughts?

For sure agree on all the points! The Hardie board, kerdi membrane, and wall panel together are as think as the sheet rock next to it.

Ya, I did get a few air pockets in the kerdi membrane towards the top of the back right wall.

But i don't think anything is at risk of leaking on the outside of the shower, like it did before.

But for a total cost under $3k I'm happy with it for now. Or at least I will be when I'm actually done. I have a ton of scrap left to do another project altogether lol. I haven't installed any of the border at the top I still need to. And will be buying a sliding door in next couple of weeks for it.

The shower tower is amazing and I highly recommend them! They look good, even if cheaply made, but all the different shower heads is so nice!

Is that a single sheet of quarts or porcelain on the walls? If so, where did you get this from? looks amazing.

It's fake, and they have a ton of different patterns. I ordered directly from Flexstone but you can also get it at Lowes and Home depot

Thanks, that's pretty good for a fake. I'm going to have to try this out.
