Ok, I didn't like the fogs on mods so far because of that dumb 4 hour on thing. So I figured, why not just grab the signal from the marker lights? Its an on with light switch circuit, its fairly low amperage, and its really easy to get to.

So, first to mod the relay itself. I took the rear most coil contact (the one that shows 12v when the headlights come on) bent it over and solder/shrink sleeved a 16ga wire to it. Simple enough, just have to be careful that you don't heat the contact up to much.

I left about 2ft of wire on there, so it'd be easier to work with. I found one of those holes that was nice and close and just started pushing the wire through. It popped out the bottom without much complaint. So what we have is a very clean look after its plugged back in.

Now to grab the signal I'd need, I went to the breakout for all the driver side signal lights. Following the wire back from the marker itself, I stripped back a length, cut my signal wire from the relay to size and soldered them. Being very careful not to brand myself in the process.

Ok, clean it all up and make it look pretty.

    And the result:

I disassembled the fuse box, and moved the wire location in the plug from 1 plug to another. No soldering, and no way to tell the mod was even done while looking at the fuse box...

No worries of lights coming on after 4 hours etc...

There is a very good write up on TN, which I added pics to when i did mine.

    Good luck.

    Thanks.

Your caption at the bottom doesn't make sense......

"Good engineers design things to be idiot proof. Truly amazing engineers craft things to be idiot resistant".

Isn't "proof" a higher level than "resistant". Like a waterproof watch is better than a water resistant watch.

So a truly amazing engineer would make something idiot proof, right?

I'm not arguing, just pointing out something you may want to change. Perhaps you typed it in haste.

Proof expects the engineer to outsmart the idiot, resistant expects the idiot to confound the engineer and for the system to survive

That looks great but I've got a few questions...

Can you still control the fog lights on/off with the existing switch?
    and

Which wire do you slice into from the relay to turn on the foglights?
    and

What happens to the relay when you don't connect all the pins back into the terminal? Doesn't seem like it would work...

Existing switch works normally. The only difference in function is that you can turn the lights on with the marker lights. The fogs also stay on when high beams are turned on.

The wire I sliced into was the hot +12v wire for the driver side marker light. The terminal on the relay I bent over was the rear most pin. That side of the relay shows 12v with low beam and turns off with high beam. The other side will show 12v then ground when the switch is pressed.

You need to understand the circuit of that relay. The pin I bent up is merely a feed, not a signal. Its what is called a low signal circuit, meaning that it rests (not triggered) at +12v and signals from the switch with a ground. The FOG switch in the cab just grounds the relay, it does not send power.

What the problem that I solved was that the +12v source for that relay would not be turned on until you had triggered low beams. So you'd loose them whenever those were turned off. I made it so the source is from the marker lights, which is on constantly with the switch.

    Hope that clears it up.

my posts started at #213 (sandfleee) but I simply added blurry pics to someone elses explanation. I was doing the BIG THREE at the same time (while the fuse box was open) so there are a few pics of that as well.

All your doing is taking the wire from pin 21 of Junction Block 2A and moved it to pin 13. The challenging part is getting to the underside of the fuse box, but in the end much cleaner then the "add a fuse" method, or any "solder - relay" method.

Hope this helps anyone considering this mod.

So let me get this straight. If you have the fog lights on and the marker lights on what happens when you turn off the marker lights? Do the fogs go off as well or do they stay on until you turn them off with the fog light switch?

If the marker lights are turned off, the fogs turn off also. The fogs operate independently from the headlights and are instead tied to the operation of the marker lights.

Fantastic, that is what I have been looking for. I always forget to turn my fogs off in the morning and end up driving around with them on most of the afternoon. Will be doing this on Saturday. Thanks
