Yeah I think you need to adjust how you drive in the snow, most morons seem to think there on dry concrete and expect the same results, thats why on the first snowfall of the year there are a ton of accidents, slow down, don't follow to close, and relax.

I'm from GF/W, and I got a story for you.

My wife and I were home for a vacation this past fall, and we took a run out to CB because I had a job interview at the mill. Anyways, we did some touring around town, and the wife kept saying "I'm so glad we own a 4x4 truck now instead of the car [a 2009 corolla we traded in for the Tacoma], these roads/hills are insane".

Power to you for even managing to make it around town some days in that place, its a little chaotic.

It's all about the tires. I drove a 2WD Ranger, open diff, for years with zero issues in upstate NY. Get GOOD snow tires and drive smart, you'll be fine. Of course now I have a 4wd which is even better lol.

It's the driver, not the snow. :D

A group of us went up to Beech Mountain, NC for a snowboard trip Monday and Tuesday last week. They got absolutely pounded with snow and cold temps that produced a lot of ice.

My first attempt up a lot of the steep inclines were unsuccesful. After inquiring about snow chains ($250!), I declined to be swindled. I said screw it and lowered my tire pressure down to 25 PSI on all four tires. My 2WD PreRunner drove like a dream after that. I had zero issues.

Granted, I do have Nitto Terra Grappler in a 265/75/16 size, so that undoubtedly helped quite a bit, but 2WD is still very capable with a little know-how.
